Haven't lost a pound on my diet

Recommended Posts

I've been following my diet they gave me through Kaiser's options program, increased my exercise, and haven't lost one lb. I'm dissappointed in myself. I've also switched bcp twice since I've started, so perhaps my body is still trying to get used to the new hormone combination. Anyway...did this happen to anyone else? Did they still sleeve you?

I started at 219.2 in September. He told me to lose 10 lbs. I lost 9.2 by January 5th when my surgery date was. He still did it.

I lost about 4#'s during my Options class and I was sleeved on Jan 17th. There was a few ladies in my Options class that didn't lose any weight dueing the 12 weeks and both were sleeved before me. As long as you don't gain weight during the 12 weeks then you will be ok. The surgeon who will preform the surgery may require you to lose some weight before he will do the surgery. My surgeon didn't ask me to lose any weight but 1 lady in my class was requires to lose 20 pounds before the surgeon would give her a date. So don't stress about losing any weight, just don't gain.

I finished my options class on the 24th and saw the Kaiser Dr. Nothing was said about only losing 4 lbs. I was given the ok to see the surgeon.

Is this your pre-op diet, or the nutritionist "recommended" 3-month diet?

For everyone who had their surgery without losing much or any weight, was your surgery covered by insurance? My surgeon says I need to lose 5% for the insurance company to approve it. So of course, like the rest of my life up until now, I'm having trouble with losing it. I've got 3 weeks to make some progress!

The person in charge of the program says that it's up to the surgeon, who I won't get to talk to until Feb. 20something. Frustrated, and wishing my body would just cooperate already.

nutritionist recommended diet. Won't be having surgery until March.

Ah, I GAINED TEN POUNDS on that diet and still got approved.

As always, CALL your doctor and ask, and CALL your insurance provider and ask.

Nobody's experience here will reflect your requirements.

I think it depends on the kaiser. At kaiser richmond you would not be able to get an appointment with the case manager to schedule your surgery until you got to your set goal weight.

Sorry to hear that, and yes it does happen to most of us. I know it happened to me lasst week so during this week i decided to do a mile of walking and jogging at 10:10:30 and another mile at 2:30-3:00. It has been helping oh and a must is your 7 hours of sleep. Without proper sleep, you cant shed of lbs. Every time I wake up in the moring I loose a lbs a day. I have lost 7 lbs this week just by doing an hour of slight jogging and walking. Dont do to much running you might be building too much muscle for now.

I hope this helps.

My Kaiser Options program told us that we had to lose 10% of our starting weight or the surgeon would not do the surgery. It's a guideline I think. They want you to try to lose as much weight as you can before surgery just so that your liver shrinks a bit and it generally makes the surgery easier. My surgeon told me to try to lose 10 more pounds, but he would still do the surgery as long as I don't gain anything back.

I'm losing inches I think. I had to suck it in to button my pants last week, and now they're loose, but the scale isn't reflecting that. I think perhaps I just gain muscle faster than I lose fat. My silly body

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
