My personal "goal" was not a weight, not really....it was a size....I wanted to wear a size 8! I went shopping last week because my size 8's are too big. That's right, now I'm wearing a size 6! Shocking. I'm 51, and I wasn't wearing a size 6 in highschool. I don't remember EVER wearing a size 6, I'm serious. I am certain I went from a 6x in elementary school to a size 12 in jr. high!!! :)

It feels good, I look at them and am sure there is NO WAY I can actually slip into them, but lo' and behold, they fit. Of course, I thought the same thing about the size 8's, I didn't think I could really put them on!! I love my sleeve.

Isn't it great???

I totally get the "I can't fit into these" mentality. I have it all the time. What a wonderful problem to have!

When I get frustrated still being in a plus size, 16, I try to remember what a pair of 16s would have looked like to my pre-op self, when I was in a 24. I try to remember that I had a pair of 22s that I couldn't get over my hips and that those same pants are now in the bottom of my wardrobe because they are too big to be worn even with a belt. I try to remember all this and not be greedy, but I can hardly WAIT to get into the single digits! I haven't worn a single digit since I was 17!

IT WILL happen, I rememeber when I first wore a sixteen, it was exciting! Luckily I had a couple of pairs, because don't most of us have several sizes in our closets??!!! LOL! Wow....I've gotten rid of everything from 'before' - as advised from somebody wiser than me. Dr. Oz I believe said don't hang on thinking you MIGHT re-gain, but somebody in my support group said keep one piece of clothing to remind yourself of WHERE you started. I kept a pair of jeans and a dress. The jeans are a mens size 40x32 and the dress is a size 20. I cannot BELIEVE how huge the jeans are!! I put them on about a month ago just to see.....and they are so big it is hard imagine that they fit me snugly a year ago!!! Good luck.....it's such a fun journey!!!

That is amazing and I'm so happy for you! I love stories like yours -- they help me get through the days when I get on the scale and am POd because I'm not losing as fast as I think I should be. Right now a size 6 seems like an impossible achievement -- my goal is to be a size 8 too. I hope I can be as successful as you!

Kris,

Do NOT get discouraged, there was a time when a 12 seemed like a dream and I told myself that if I never wore a smaller size, that is what I was wearing in in high school and I was NOT big!! An 8 was my goal, I never even considered a 6....it still seems unreal....it just happened recently, I'm still in shock! I know it may seem out of reach some times....but I assure you, it is not! You'll look back and see that although NOW it may seem like it is slow, when you look over the course of your life and all the ups and downs - a nice steady weight loss is great and it really does happen quickly. (many times I'd lose a lb or two and then gain a lb the next day and do that a few days before it would stay off, but it WOULD stay off!!) It takes a while for your mind to catch up! Good luck!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
