lianna 3 Posted June 19, 2006 Has anyone noticed that they stall or plateau at a weight that they were previously stuck on for a while? I was stuck at 190 for a year or two and stalled out for about month when I hit 190. I also hovered at 165 for about 2 years, and am wondering if I will plateau when I get to 165. Has anyone noticed a connection between previous "setpoint weights" and stalls?
Marimaru 7 Posted June 19, 2006 I think that there is definately a connection. I just out of being stuck at a weight that I was at for a long time when I was younger. I think the body says "Hey! I remember this!"
S@ssen@ch 745 Posted June 20, 2006 Wow, I never really thought about that. But, you know? This darn plateau that I've been stuck on for what seems like forever is exactly where I was about 15 years ago. I stayed there until I had my first child. Connection? Maybe. Definately worth asking others about.
Jachut 487 Posted June 20, 2006 Yes, most definitely. Previous setpoints are the only places at which I plateau, its quite bizarre.
ljones4521 4 Posted June 20, 2006 Lianna, Thanks for bringing this subject matter to the forefront. I have been at 200lbs for a few months now and have been trying to maintain a positive attitued. Just recently I became a little irritated and upset with my failure. However, I was at 200lbs for about 2 years prior to being banded and perhaps this is why my body has refused to budge. I was about 165lbs for 2 years and 128 for most of my teenage and young adult life (31yrs). Maybe I'll plateau at these as well. Now, how do we break the plateau? I have a fill scheduled for July 12. I am hoping this will help. I feel burning around my port, I figure this is the liquid seeping out.
niki 1 Posted June 20, 2006 Hmmm... this is very interesting! I never really thought about it and related one thing to the other. I wonder, maybe our fat cells have some sort of memory and when we reach a certain weight that triggers some mechanism in our body... Lisa - you should consult your doctor about that burning sensation around your port, that doesn't seem normal at all. I don't mean to scare you but there are several cases here at LBT about port problems. niki
CCBSTX 0 Posted June 20, 2006 YES! I've been thinking the same thing. 180 is my set point. I am trying everything to break the barrier. So far, nothing. My body is holding on to this weight...BIG TIME! I've been stuck for about 6 weeks. I am really focusing on nutrition and no less then 1000 calories plus the exercise. I think I might be "rounding the bend" this week. I just have a feeling. Shawn
Irish Girl 3 Posted June 21, 2006 I am at a plateau right now and it is the same weight I held for quite a while. It has been about 3 weeks and I am so ready to start losing again. What can we do to jump start our weight loss again?
Tricia K. 0 Posted June 21, 2006 Here's a great plateau busting diet I came across on another message board. http://www.digitalhorsewoman.com/plateaubusting.htm
iluvpalmtrz 0 Posted June 21, 2006 This may seem silly but when I get "stuck" on a plateau I put myself on liquids for 2 days then mushies for 2 then slowly back to regular food. (kinda like after a fill ) this has always worked for me. just a thought! Good luck!!!
