1 week post op.and I ate some mushy food

Recommended Posts

Hello guys..I'm 1 week post op and I starting eating chicken noodles Soup ( including the noodles). I felt awful about breaking the rules but I tried one bite and it went down ok, not to mention I just wanted some real food. After 6 days on the liquid diet, I just felt I needed something more. Am I wrong for breaking the rules? Should I tell my Dr. What I did? I feel ok, just still drowsy with the meds. Thanks for your input.

I have been on liquids for 4 weeks now and have 2 to go. My doctor requires 3 weeks before and 3 weeks after all liquids. I am doing what he told me . I had my surgery on Jan 17th. It may be ok but I am not brave enough to do what he tells me not to do. Good Luck.

The main reason for the liquid stage is to preserve the staple lines, as the new stomach is still healing. You shouldn't feel guilty in regards to wanting real food but I would say that you should move on from it and just continue with your fluids now. It's not there for us to feel deprived, even though most of us do at the start, its for our safety, as eating solids to soon can cause a leak.

I wouldn't overly worry as noodles are quite soft but do talk to your Dr about it. Please try to refrain now from the mushy foods as this part isn't a regular 'diet' as such, it's there for your safety, so when you feel the urge to eat just remind yourself of how your new stomach is still healing.

And don't beat yourself up about this or think you're not doing well. Your perfectly human. We aren't meant to be limited to specific foods long term, it's just the short term, so just carry on and remind yourself that your doing well.

Well you did what you felt you needed to do. . . however, you knew the rules, I can't really tell you if you were wrong or right, that is for you to decide, however, if you start having problems are you going to explain to the doctor? Sorry if this sounds harsh, but reality isn't fun and neither is the pain associated with a leak.

I'm at 3 weeks out today and already on solid food. My doctor progresses through all the stages really quickly. I was only on liquids for 3 days before i went on to pureed foods. I don't think you will have done any damage but its best to stick to your doctors plan.

I can understand how you can get sick of liquids, i'm so happy that my doctor isn't so strict, i didn't do a pre-op diet either.

It's possible that here in Europe they leave more stomach than they do in the US and that might be a factor.

Just think of all the quick weight loss you will have and the time will soon pass.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
