Anyone ran a 5K post surgery? I have always wanted to do a 5K even though I don't like to run! LOL I just signed up for my first 5K! I'll do it on the 30th of April so I have plenty of time to train right! I have always been walking/jogging at the gym and I have been averaging 2 miles in 30 mins which I think is pretty good considering! LOL Any advise for from anyone who has done it for a first timer?

I haven't ran one yet, but I want to! My plan is to get to 180 lbs and then start jogging. I'm worried all the weight I am carrying now will mess my joints up if I jog. Who knows? I have in the past and will walk another half marathon this spring.

Anway, here is a plan some of my friends have used for successfully running their first 5K. It's called couch to 5K. I plan to use it when I shed more weight. Good luck!

Good luck! I've been working on my 5K as well. Like coops, I hope by the time the weather gets nice again I'll be fully able to do my jogs outside. :)

YES, you can do it, and 3 months is plenty of time to train!! Especially if you're already doing 2K. I went from 0 to 5K in two months using the C25K program, and before that I'd been able to run one mile straight exactly ONE time in my life and that was at age 14. I tried many times, but it took outgrowing asthma and then losing 60 lbs before trying again, but if I can do it anyone can, so go for it!! B)

I think I will try the C25K again. I've tried before but make it to week three and it gets to hard and I've given up! LOL I can't run anything straight right now but we'll see if that changes! Right now I've been doing 5 min walk, 2 min run for 30 mins! I'm going to see if I can bump that up though!! I'm really excited and am going to get fitted for running shoes and evently get new clothes for the race but I'll wait until closer to time on that since I'm still loosing the weight!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
