Did any of you have high blood pressure (non medicated) when you had your surgery?

Recommended Posts

My blood pressure has been high for a few weeks (180/90 I think). This happened a few years back but it went back to normal without meds. I was worried about this and my high resting heart rate (90s) so I had a stress EKG last week (treadmill) and everything is fine with my heart but he is concerned about my pressure and told me that he doesn't know why I would have a high heart rate and my oxygen level would go down during exercize but in rare cases it could be a blood clot in the lung. I had a lung x-ray and breathing tests in Dec and everything was fine. Doctor said that if I had a clot it would likely have shown on those tests.

I'm supposed to have surgery THIS FRIDAY and I'm worried. Feedback? I'm guessing that high blood pressure and heart rate are not unusual for the overweight. Did any of you have these issues when you had surgery? I just had surgery last Aug with no problems and the heart rate was the same then....

My blood pressure is always high. I was sleeved on Jan 11th and the nurse taking care of me out of surgery said I can't get her blood pressure down. Finally, after the second time he said that and he was getting ready to give me more medicine I looked at my monitor and said is that my blood pressure and he said yes....I said that is my NORMAL blood pressure 145/92. LOL I've never been on high blood pressure medicine. All went fine with my surgery and I'm healing really well!

GOOD luck on Friday!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
