I am 12 days out on my new sleeve and I am pleasantly surprised how easily my foods and liquids go down. I do not have to sip anymore, I just take regular drinks and regular bites of soft foods, like apple sauce and cottage cheese and eggs. I thought I'd be eating like a baby all my life.

Is anyone else like this?

Thanks

After the first few days, I was like that too ... kinda made me wonder if they really had removed enough stomach?!?!?!?!? LOL

Glad to hear that it is going so well for you!

Here is my response taken from a previous post...

I had the same issue. Never threw up once or even felt nauseous and starting on day four post-op, I found I could drink pretty normal. A mouthful of Water swallowed in two or three gulps was and still is no problem. Even when eating I had no issue getting down at least a cup of full liquid food like greek yogurt, creamy Soups, Sugarfree pudding or custard. I was worried that something was wrong. I called my doctor and he explained that nothing is wrong and that the size of sleeve is not the issue at all. Everyone's anatomy is slightly different and my anatomy orientation (stomach positioning, length, etc.) is such that allows me more freedom than many other sleeve patients. He said I should consider myself very fortunate and then he added "just wait until you get to semi-soft foods."

Sure enough, when I started on eggs, purred turkey, soft cheese, etc. BURP. Hello restriction! Now I get full after eating a half a cup of food. Dense Protein is my friend. Less than three weeks out from surgery, I am down 30 pounds!

Hang in there and count your blessings. Your going to do great!!

What I am surpised about is how fast I can eat. I know we are suppossed to go slow, but I *hate* having to re-microwave 2oz of food. So I sit down, eat and chew and I'm done in a very quick amount of time. I have yet to "toss my cookies" since being sleeved!

So I am generally surprised by that. I was orginially going to do the band and got NUT couseling about "tiny bites" "chewing slow" all that jazz. So in that respect I'm happy that the sleeve actually allows me to eat "normally" (normal bite, chew, swallow, etc.)

I have not stalled yet and I'm sure I will it seems like so many people do stall at one time or another. You really can't compare your own weight loss with others. We are all so different. Just know that we all loose at different rates. I bet you are not doing a thing wrong. Follow your plan and you will be successful.

I am glad to hear that some can eat normally and not super slow. I am typically a fast eater but am trying to start the slow down and extra chewing process.

Like you, I didn't have any problems swallowing or keeping food down... as LONG as I kept my portions teeny tiny doll sized portions.

I guess that I interpret "eating slowly" as not how long it takes me to chew and swallow one bite, as how long it takes me to eat an entire meal. I do have to stop and put my fork down between each bite, and "savor the flavor," and not cram food down my throat like I used to... or I will get sick.

It also depends on WHAT you eat... steak and salad are a lot harder to eat fast, or eat "big bites" of than yogurt or cottage cheese. You don't want that "stuck in your gullet" feel... trust me!

I too noticed this. I was getting discouraged thinking I was eating too much. I just make sure I am measuring everything out and as long as I don't go over that, I am okay. I have noticed that the denser foods hit the "too full" point a lot quicker then the slider foods. And that too full feeling is literally the difference between one bite. It's not easy to get used to, but I know it's working. I bought some glass bowls with a lids that are 1 cup volume. I use those to eat from so I know that a half a bowl is just enough. I made my dinner tonight and I made too much and ended up with two extra portions. Breakfast and lunch for tomorrow!!

I just look at the fact that I am no longer eating 3-4 cups of food in one sitting to now only eating 1 1/2 cups in a day. It's great!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
