Mushy Stage

Hi All,

While preparing my daughter's baby food (pureed sweet potatoes, apples, pears, squash, green Beans, sweet peas) I began to wonder if I should prepare some for me during my "mushy stage." I will be taking a Protein "shot" (liquid) of 18 grms of proteinsper tablespoon (2X a day) in addition to my other "liquids" the first month. I really want to make sure I get my Protein in. So I thought with the added boost of the protein "shot" it may be okay to incorporate fresh pureed veggies during the mushy stage (3 weeks out) to mix it up and add other nutrients. What do yo think?

PS- Tommorow is the day!:o

Good luck tomorrow!!!

Re: pureeing some fresh baby food, I don't see why not! I think it would be much better than the canned baby food I tried during the mushy phase!!!

Good luck tomorrow and I don't think theres a problem with baby food. Everyone tried to get me to eat it while i was on the mushy stage but I just couldn't bring myself to eat itblink.gif

THe only thing I would consider is the fact that you should choose high Protein items instead of vegs. pureed meat, Beans etc.

I make my daughter's baby food. So its really just regular food smashed to pieces. I think I will make some tonight (to freeze) just a little fruit and veggies. I will make sure I focus on Proteins, but since I have the Liquid Protein I'm not too worried.

I did that for the first couple of weeks, literally ate with my baby, focusing on the protein of course as someone said earlier, good luck!

Just keep in mind most Protein Shots are not the best type of Protein. You need a min of 60 gms if you can get it in. I would go ahead and have some vegs and fruits, just add some ground meats or Beans or other whey isolate based protein too to top up your numbers. Cheers and enjoy!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
