well, i had my surgery monday. It is now thurs. Evening and i am still in hospital. I was supposed to go home today. They did my upper gi this morning and are keeping me because my tummy was sluggish. Well, the contrast for the upper gi is the most discusting stuff i have ever tasted. I really thought it was coming back up. I think they will do another in the morning. Is that right? What can i do about the sluggish tummy? I am walking and trying to drink.

I think she means not passing gas. Not much you can do about it, just keep walking and sipping.

My surgeon requires an Upper GI for all his patients before he will approve them for surgery. I had to drink about 3 or 4 cups of that nasty chalky stuff while they took pics and had me roll around and around on the table. I even had to drink one cup laying on my back!

That stuff set up like cement in my gut and I got SO constipated! Of course I didn't know that the site of my previous colon surgery had grown so much scar tissue that I only had a tinsy little pin hole opening at that site. Hopefully they won't make me drink that much and I won't have so much trouble.

I do remember the tech saying as I left, "if there is anything that makes your bowels move I would eat that today". I ate some chili....wow, did I ever get gut cramps BAD!! No fun!!

I hope your sluggish tummy wakes up soon!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
