Sheila 1 Posted January 19, 2011 I was just curious to see if anyone out in Support Land can answer this. Maybe one of the nurses or physician's who may be on the sight. Once I have my surgery and I have my staple line in, will that prevent me from ever having an MRI again. Not that I want one but as everyone knows, things happen and it may be necessary in the future. Sheila
Rootman 1,101 Posted January 19, 2011 No it will not, the staples are titanium which is NON ferrous - which means non magnetic. The therefore will not be attracted to the giant magnet. The will show up BLACK on the MRI so you should advise whoever is interpreting the MRI that you've been sleeved.
Tiffykins 673 Posted January 19, 2011 Ditto to Rootman's post. . . I have told people " I had a partial gastrectomy". When you say "vertical sleeve gastrectomy" they just look dumbfounded and it's too confusing for people to process. EVEN those in the medical profession seem to ignore "gastrectomy" and are purely focused on the vertical sleeve part.
