wannabeskinny 0 Posted January 18, 2011 I have my first consultation on Friday and I'm really worried my insurance won't pay for the sleeve because i haven't had a BMI of 40 for two years and I don't have any comorbidities with a lower BMI. Does anybody know if I self pay, and God forbid i have complications, will Cigna cover the hospital stay and/or additional surgeries?
MRSKOUBiK 27 Posted January 18, 2011 It's hard to tell. It seems that even though people may both have Cigna, they may have two totally different plans... I would check to see if your plan excludes WLS all together, because if so, they probably won't But, I'm no expert. Just call them and ask questions. They were helpful when I called! wannabeskinny 0 Posted January 19, 2011 Well I have CIGNA Open Access and it does cover the sleeve...I guess I'll just impatiently wait for the consultation and see what they have to say. I'm a little nervous about that. I don't want to hear bad news.
McKee 0 Posted January 19, 2011 Hi I also have Cigna open access, and my Bmi is right at 40, as the policy reads you can still be covered without a comorbit...if you are 40 or greater...now I have just been diagnosed with osteoarthritis in the hips and knees with I understand to be considered by cigna as a comorbit...I'll keep you updated on the progress.
