4 Weeks post op!! Horrible pain in my left rib area :(

Recommended Posts

I will be 4 weeks post op tomorrow. I am down 32lbs in the last 4 weeks, and have been feeling amazing. Now I am dealing with what feels like gas pains again. My body has been real achey and I haven't felt like doing much around the house. I started back to work at 2 weeks post op and although I was cleared to resume working "manage a restraunt" I feel like I started back to quickly.. I am really considering doing the 5 day sleeve test, and let my stomach rest for a few days. I have been on solids for the last 2 weeks and have had no trouble at all with them. I get in my meat first and usually that's all I get in at a meal.. I am waiting the 30 minutes before and the 30 minutes after to drink something, but even then it feels like I drank to soon.. What's going on with my body? Is it normal to have pain at 4 weeks post op? Is gas a possible cause for the pain? Lots of questions and the doctors office was closed today so I am reaching out on here.. Thanks!!

Hi...I am definitely no expert as I am only 11 days post op. But, do you think maybe you moved to solids to quickly? I know every Dr. seems to vary slightly but I haven't heard of advancing to solids at only two weeks out. I am on full liquids until day 29 and then it's mushies/pureeded foods and then on to solids. Just a thought...again I am new also, but just thought I would add that maybe it's to soon for solids. All the best to you.

are you doing to much "working". I know I got some sharp pains around 4 weeks but I was bending over too much, doing laundry, more things than what I was cleared to do. I spent a day not doing anything except walking and buy the next day, I was much better. It was just my body, saying "hey stupid, you just recently had major stomach surgery....take it easy" If it continues definately call your doctor.

I'm going by my doctors orders where solids are envolved. I am calling the doctors office in the morning because about an hour ago I burped and up came old blood. I don't know how common this is so I am getting it looked at asap.. I am however going to switch back to liquids on my own for a few days and see how that helps. Maybe my stomach just needs the rest.. I don't think it's a leak or anything however I'm not a doctor.. Anyway just wanted to update on what's going on with the pain.. Calling doctor asap in the morning..

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
