I have lost 58 lbs since 7/28/10 surgery. Had lost 43# pre-surg. In the past six weeks I have lost and gained the same four pounds several times. Have tried 800 c., 1000c., and 1200c. I understand plateaus and have tried varying exercise and adding calories per Nut, but that ADDS weight.

I know everyone says this, but i am really worried about insuffient weight loss on the sleeve. 25% is all 30% achieve. These are the folks who go on to have a second procedure, which I can't do. I started at 379 and am now at 238, having lost about 25% of my excess weight...not a success, but not a failure. What suggestions?

Have you had any labs to check and see if you are metabolically challenged i.e. insulin resistant, or thyroid issues?

How does your body feel such as inches/pant sizes lost? How tall are you and how close to goal are you?

yup Tiff is right about that. . get especially your Vitamin D checked. from what i understand obesity and Vitamin D deficiency are linked. I have severe vitamin D deficency and because of that have increased parathryroid hormone which makes you fat. . . soooooo i'm taking hugh amounts of D by prescription to help level it out now. . . we'll see how it works. . . good luck. . . oh and by the way you have come a long way from that 379 lbs, bet you look and feel so much better now huh? congratulations on having done such a great job! I'm in major stuck land now too, but if it's going to move i'll be glad but if not oh well at least i'm not 350 lbs anymore . . .

Somehow your numbers are not adding up. From 379 to 238 lbs is a 141 lb. weight loss. That can't be only 25% of your excess weight. If you add your 58 lb loss with your 43 lb. pre-surgery loss that is a 101 lb total, still more than 25% of your excess weight. If your goal were 179 lbs. you would have needed to lose 200 lbs. and it seems you have lost 50% of that so far.

I am on a bit of a plateau myself so I feel for you. I do hope the pounds start coming off soon.

Even if you only count the 58lbs, thats 10lbs a month, what my Nut said I should expect to lose... you are only 6 months out, and still have 6-12 months in the "honeymoon" weight loss period left to keep up the good work!

My count says you have lost 141 from your high weight so far...that is GREAT! Your just down in the dumps from your crumby plateau. How about posting what you are eating and how you are moving, and perhaps we can take a look and see if we have any ideas for you?

Also, 238 is awesome! How are your co morbidities? I bet you feel a bunch better at this point. Don't let the numbers get you down, you and the sleeve are not a failure...you are still a work in progress, and your body will slow down and eventually stop losing when it wants to. Perhaps your fantasy goal is not your bodys goal... keep up the work and you will see when the time comes.

Correction 278...i have lost increasingly lower amount each month and have lost none in the past month. This is too early for an extended plateau, and the average doesn't represent that... the up and down, when my diet and exercise are constant, comcerns me...

I am very well versed re plateaus, and understand your point, but I feel that the insulin resistance, or something endrocrinological is possible, as is the limits of the sleeve. I am also taking Victoza and Testosterone, prescribed by my Doc...

How frustrating for you, best of luck finding out what is causing the hold up!

If you want to get past this plateau, and back into the losing game.. take up SPINNING!!! Join a gym and work out every day.

Remember what they told us... the Gastric Sleeve Surgery is a TOOL to help us lose weight, not a magic bullet. It won't work if you don't work it...

But I think you are doing just great anyway. You're too hard on yourself.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
