Legally they can't ask you why. All you'll need is to provide a note from your Dr. saying you will be under their care and away from work until xx/xx/xx. If you get questions, just tell them that it's personal.

That said, I have read a lot of posts from people saying that they were surprised by how supportive their co-workers were. Obviously they will notice that you're losing weight. They might put two and two together anyway.

Hi Firebird,

I can totally understand where you're coming from. I felt the exact same way as you, and do not feel comfortable with anybody from working knowing my business. I told my boss through email, and just said I was having a medical procedure, and I would be out from this date to this. I felt like he would ask me a lot more questions if I did it in person, and I'm not quite comfortable lying. He wrote me back and just said thanks for letting him know. I know there will be questions though...so once I get back I plan on saying that I had a hernia repair (if I have one) or another person mentioned there was a surgery to correct a valve or something that had the exact same post op stuff. I actually asked a similar question about a week or two ago and got some really great feedback. I think you can search "what can i tell my nosey boss?" or something like that.

good luck

I've had problems with a colon stricture and was told I may need surgery to fix the problem. I have an appointment with the colorectal surgeon this week. I've let people at work know this...so when I disappear the first week of Feb, I'm hoping they will assume it is THAT surgery. If I have to lie I will. It's nobody's business.

People can be so judgemental!

I confided in my boss and she was SO supportive. She thought it was a very smart thing for me to be doing. It helps that one of her husbands' coworkers had some kind of bariatric surgery and was very successful. I work for an orthopaedic surgeon practice and my cubicle is next to three nurse practitioners, so it would be very hard to keep any kind of "big change" quiet. I have confided with a few people at work, and all were very supportive. I suppose afterward I will be open with everyone who asks. And I will just have to be firm with any negativity and say, "My surgeon, PCP, cardiologist, and family all agreed that it was the best thing for my health" and let it go at that.

Good luck!

I was just going to tell my immediate boss, but I needed a note for getting the days off from the higher up bosses... well I got the note and the header was from the Bariatric clinic... I guess they will all know now!

blink.gif oh well!

thank you for the message. i am so glad there is such a great support system in place. you never know how people will take your weight loss and i am a really private person after being hurt by opeing up and being taken advantage of. a growing process, i guess. i am happy for you and hope things go great for the journey ahead.

Hi, I am kind of in the same boat you are in. I haven't gotten approved yet. I have been trying to think of what to tell the lady I stay with why I am not going to be at work awhile. I don't want my family to know. I wasn't even going to tell my husband, but I did. I really don't want anyone to know for one is that they will give the surgery all the credit, when we know it is going to be work from us and the sleeve is a tool to help us

God Bless

my thoughts exactly!!! i know this surgery will save my life and i am at a point that i need to do this for myself and family. i wish work did not have to be in the picture, but it does and when i do start to slim down, i figure people will talk if i am overweight and they will talk if i loose weight!! Good luck with your journey and my thoughts and prayers are with you!

I have been having trouable with my stomach so might be able to go that way. I am telling my husband and one girlfriend. I just don't want to hear my families comments. I work in a hospital too. I am afraid of people knowing. I have a coworker who had the band in last spring and hasn't lost anything because she's noncompliant. I'm saving up my time off and I plan to arrange my work schedule around it. I would rather work through it than have people speculating about me behind my back. I love my coworkers, and they mean the best, but I think it's important to keep it close to home for a while. My family knows. More of them than I want, but I can deal with them. :P

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
