At 6 mos out how many ounces of solid protein is a meal?

Recommended Posts

I accidentally ate 8 oz of salmon by not checking portions ahead of time. I felt full, but not over full. I also had about 6 brussells sprouts. Have I stretched my pouch or is this normal at 6 months out?

Thx

Hmm, that's a little more than I can usually eat, but maybe you are taller and your sleeve is longer? I'm 5'5". I'd cap out at 6 oz for sure.

I can hold about 4-6oz of white fish. I'm not a fan of salmon so I can't say how much of I could possibly eat. It's more than what I could eat, but that doesn't mean you stretched anything out. Like BBJ wrote, you might be taller, you might have chewed the heck out of your food, did you eat super slow, all of these play a small role in capacity.

Dumb question ... But if you didn't measure before you ate it, how do you know how much you ate?

Not to derail the conversation, but I see more and more mention of 'ruining my sleeve' or 'stretching my sleeve' by over-eating. My understanding is that the stretchy part of the stomach is what is removed, so our stomachs really can't stretch (or just barely). I get the impression people think they've ruined their stomach somehow by eating too much. That's not really possible, is it? I mean I'm sure if you eat until you're 'stuffed' at every meal it might be slightly bigger than it would normally be, but there's never any danger of negating the effects of having had the surgery.

You are correct. It's nearly impossible to truly stretch out the sleeve. The tissue (if the surgery is performed correctly) that remains is the least stretchy part of the stomach. I've been eating the same quantities for a year now, and have little change in restriction. Now with all that being said, I can cheat the sleeve. It's not difficult to do at all.

I can drink warm fluids or a glass of wine before a meal and eat more. I can stretch my meal out over 40-60 minutes and eat more. I can take breaks in between eating, and eat more. I don't do it that often, but I can cheat the sleeve and make it easier to consume more per meal. If I stick to the rules, Protein first, meals to last no more than 30 minutes, then I have amazing restriction.

I ate it and then thought, gosh that seemed kinda big and then looked at the measurements on the package label I had discarded in the trash. I had just eyeballed it and thought, maybe 5 oz but when I checked it was 8 oz. Oops. Thx for the advice/comments all.. I am 5'7 tall. I eat in abt 15-20 minutes, pretty fast actually. Sometimes I can eat more, sometimes less. Fresh salmon is pretty soft, maybe that's why I ate so much. I seem to want to eat more lately and it's freaking me out a bit. I'm very good on healthy food choices, though so at least the extra ounces of food were good Protein and not fries or something.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
