What is Considered to be "Liquids"?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on 01/12/11 and now on a liquid diet for 2 weeks. My question is... would Tomato Soup prepared with skim milk be okay? Part of my "liquid" diet is Protein Shakes, which are prepared with skim milk, and are not Clear Liquids. So, obviously I'm not limited to just clear liquids. What do you think? Tomato Soup sure sounds good right now, but don't want to mess anything up. Thanks!

I'm sure that's fine, just check the nutritional information to make sure you're not too high on fat, sodium, or carbs. While you're at it…..you might want to throw some unflavored Protein Powder in there and get some of the good stuff in.

Has anyone been told by their doc or nut that Tomato based products will be on the "no" list because of the high acid content? When I got to thinking about the Tomato Soup, it seems like I've heard this.

My doc says no acid foods including tomato Soup for 8 weeks! And NO tomato juice or sauce, oranges, peppers, pineapple, grapefruit, hot sauce.

...also no skin or seeds, such as in strawberry or other berries. sad.gif

My first two weeks my surgeon said "nothing that won't go through a straw" - well, ok then! =)

Tomato Soup was the exception to the no acid foods, starting week 2, but I was also told to test I carefully, because some people have problems with it.

I also added stage one baby food meats to my broth to give them more Protein, still thin enough to go through a straw.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
