African American Sleevers

Recommended Posts

Thanks so much. Appreciate the response. We only have 3 doctors here in Memphis. Dr Woodman for both Baptist and Methodist hospitals and Drs. Wagner and Weaver at St. Francis. I work at Baptist so my ins will not pay for me to go to St. Francis. I only have the option of dr. Woodman and he is a brilliant surgeon I hear, but from threads he has horrible follow up and a bully. I am going to call Nashville areas centers to see if my ins will pay and what other options I have.

That is so true I have BCBS of TN and my job is in AZ put my home company is I TN I had my surgery in Mexico last July :)

@@MemphisWLS

Also most insurance in TN doesn't cover WLS surgery so a lot of people from TN are going to mexico for surgery. You are going to find fewer people that had surgery in TN. That doesn't say anything bad about your doctor. Plus you should ask in the general part of the forums. There are very few active African Americans that post in this thread.

How was Mexico and which Doctor? Please tell me a bit more. I have been researching Mexico too. Dr Ortiz in Tijuana. It's amazing how dr. Woodman is one of the best in the area and he has done over 5000 procedures and I am looking at Ortiz with over 16000 under their belt. Some of the other doctors on this forum have about 200 and they claim to be the best to. This WLS is about to drive me crazy. I over research everything....

Please research B12. I have been reading. It some cases it is linked with breast cancer. Do for your body what is best. I have stopped receiving the injections. Your body your choice. Peace!

Where did you read this? Most research shows that women with breast cancer have lower b-12 and B12 lowers your risk for breast cancer.

B-12 is essential for many bodily functions.

Studies have shown that a deficiency of Vitamin B12 can lead to abnormal mental symptoms. These symptoms may include ataxia (shaky movements and unsteady gait), muscle weakness, spasticity (stiff or rigid muscles), incontinence (lack of bladder and/or bowel control), hypotension (low blood pressure), vision problems, dementia, psychoses (abnormal condition of the mind), and mood disturbances. Giving Vitamin B12 by mouth, by injection, or by nasal inhalation is effective for preventing and treating dietary vitamin B12 deficiency.

Don't just stop taking it ask your Dr.

Hello all. I'm in the very early stages of this process. Meeting with my surgeon for the first time on Tuesday. Nervous, excited and looking forward to connecting with everyone here.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
