African American Sleevers

You have to sip, sip, sip.... tiny ones all day long. I was sleeved on 7/18/14. I'm 4 days post op. My doctor has me on an all liquid diet, no Protein. Only 4 ounces per hour. I believe I'm getting about 50 calories a day. maybe less. I'm weak and and has zero energy, but I'm sipping all day and even when I wake up in the night as I don't want to go back to the hospital.

Hello I'm new to this site and I was sleeved 7/16 and I've been having these same problems far as the liquid diet is concerned its so hard my pre-surg was even harder but out of 2weeks I cheated 2days not in a row but once on the 4th of July and then another the second week but with this you can't do that I'm just afraid of deyhration just like the rest, and also I only seem to have lost 3lbs but I'm not really worried BC someone else has posted that all the fluids they pump you up with during ur stay at the hospital and the gas they pump you up with during surgery all added lbs but I went out 2day and brought frozen yogurt pudding and iced tea I have to try something different to see if it works I'll keep you guys updated goodluck with your journey

Hello Everyone,

I have a surgery date for July 28, 2014. I have to be on Optifast for 2 weeks, I'm on day 2 and it is so hard. My question is does it get any easier to manage the hunger while on this liquid diet. All I am allowed to have is 5 OPTIFAST shakes daily, Water, SF Jello, a Crystal Light.

SD Kelly, it does get easier as the days go by. Think about your goal and where you want to be.

SD Kelly, I am so happy for you. To be honest, my doctor expected people to cheat on the pre-op diet. He did not want you too but he understood that it is difficult for a person that has eaten the way they want their entire life and now to change without help. I say just follow the program and you will be fine. I am 3 months and 8 days out and down 78lbs. Crazy in 3 months... I've lost 78lbs. It is my goal to be strict for 2 years to set new habits and new eating habits. After that I can start treating myself with Portion Control. You got this!

I am so sorry you are going through all of that. My suggestion is to call your doctor and inform him about what's going on. Your doctor and his staff are your best friends right now. I don't care if you think its stupid call them. They want you to do good!

Hi all I was sleeved on 7/16/14 it's been only a week tomorrow and between the two week fast and now I'm down 25 lbs I can't drink all of any thing no energy shortness of breath if I walk to much not hungry but my mind is(if that makes sense) Water, Jello, anything hurts to go down even my favorite rite now sugar free popsicles.. I'm worried about dehydration .... It almost stopped my surgery they had to go in threw a central line in my neck because they could not find any veins .... Any advice on this thks

I think the most useful advice I can give is: (1) follow the program completely, (2) buy Premier Protein shakes, (3) don't be too hard on yourself (4) recognize in the beginning it going to be hard to get liquids in but work hard at it, you're not going to reach your Protein goal but work at it and you may not feel like yourself (it's okay), (5) expect some type of emotional roller coaster (2 week out I yelled at the lady in the grocery store (this is so not me). She mixed up my groceries after I had been in the store for 2 hours reading ever single label and I hadn't eaten in a month - quite embarrassing!) - its okay, (6) enjoy seeing the pounds come off and take lot of pictures.

Thanks for that ...I thought I was going crazy lol because I have been on edge...... I did get beside myself when he put me on pureed foods so I'm going back to the basics of what I'm supposed to be doing....I need to stop being so hard on myself I started off 282 and I'm 255 now but I had lost some of that weight on my own

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
