finediva 979 Posted July 5, 2014 Hi everyone, I'm new to this, been thru all of my classes, and just got approved for my surgery on July 18th. I just started my liquid diet today, & it's been a very long hard day. I took my 8 servings of Optifast, and tons of Water, is there anything else I can eat...I feel hungry still Hi, I'm also having my gastric sleeve on July 18th. I'm on the second day of the two week liquid diet and I have to admit I am struggling. My shakes only add up to 450 calories with 81/g Protein total. I just had to boiled eggs. I hope to get back on track tomorrow. 450 calories. That is crazy. I can barely muster up the energy or desire to do anything. But hang in there. 1 Ria1202 reacted to this
finediva 979 Posted July 5, 2014 I'm SLEEVED!!! Day 1 post op is going GREAT. I'm in very little pain, a lot of belching and first sip of Water was heaven. Congrats on the surgery. Hope you continue to do great. Do you know why you were not required to do a pre op liquid Protein diet? 1 blessedandfavored reacted to this
Forsythia 882 Posted July 5, 2014 Someone asked about calories upthread. I'm 8 weeks out now. My NUT said I should be eating between 800 and 1200 calories daily. I try to get closer to the 1200 calories on work out days, less on the non work out days. So far this strategy has been working well, I seem to be consistently losing weight each week. Every other day I will lose a lb or two. I'm a four day a week work out kind of girl, totally based around my TV schedule (okay not in the summer but during the fall/winter/spring). Today I did 55 minutes of cardio - 30 minutes on the treadmill at 3mph at a 6% incline and then another 25 minutes on the recumbent bike. Then I went and did a lot of chest and back, with some legs and abs. I really burn a lot of calories on the cardio (and I tend to estimate the calories conservatively) so I need to eat some back lest I end up super crabby.Wow! I cannot get more in than 800 calories in at the most. I'm full all of the time. I'm a 4 day gym girl too. I do an hour on the treadmill increasing my incline every 5 minutes until I reach 15 incline and then I come back down and run my last 10 minutes. I also do the elliptical on hills increasing my every 10 minutes. I also do a lot of inner thigh and chest and back. I haven't started ab work. I plan to start abs on my 3 month anniversary. I lose a 1lb to 1.8lbs most weeks but last week was big. I also noticed before a big loss I gain a lb and loss tons of inches and then I see a loss. What is funny is that yesterday I could barely get above 700 calories in. And I worked out like a fiend too. I did get in a ton of Protein though. I had a special 4th of July New York strip. LOL! I don't run. There would have to be a hoard of zombies chasing me for me to actually run. I do the elliptical as well. I like to mix it up between the treadmill and ellipitcal. My gym has a pool too. I am thinking of trying it. But emotionally it's a lot harder to be in a bathing suit than it is to be in compression leggings and a top on a treadmill. A bathing suit just puts everything out there. Plus my gym's pool faces a busy street where not just gym members can see me but random people walking by on the street. It's an emotional hurdle I'm going to have to get over. Because swimming burns mad calories and really tones up the muscles with zero strain on the joints.
Forsythia 882 Posted July 5, 2014 Hi everyone! So happy to have found this thread. The website overall has been very helpful with information and personal experiences. I am in the process of meeting with all the different specialists for testing. I finished my eight months of nutritional meetings and have met with the surgeon. It's a long process but well worth it. Good luck to all those who are close to their surgery dates! Anyone in the Chicago/Northwest Indiana area? Let's chat. I'm in Chicago - reppin the NW side. Originally from NW IN (Michigan City). Hi! Hope you continue to do great. Do you know why you were not required to do a pre op Liquid Protein diet? Your liver lies in front of your stomach. So it has to be manipulated in order to perform the sleeve. The pre op liquid diet helps to eliminate the visceral fat around the liver. Plus dehydration is critical post op. If you start off well dehydrated it will lessen your chances of becoming dehydrate post op.

They have a Water aerobic class and I haven't taken it because of the swimsuit.
IcanMakeit 1,318 Posted July 6, 2014 I totally understand your reluctance to put on a bathing suit in public. I'm feeling the same way. Although my weight has come down significantly, I have gigantic breasts and they have not reduced at all. I want to join the local gym and use their pool, but I don't know if I'm brave enough to brazen it out. I really hate being stared at. 1 Ria1202 reacted to this

My bathing suit still fits, save for in the chest. My baby lumps could slip out and wave hello! It was clearly made for someone who has much more cleave than I have. But again, I've always had that issue.
twinmommiesrock 72 Posted July 6, 2014 Prayers up for your approval! I think bring natural vs relaxed helps with Hair loss. You may want to start taking Biotin as well. My NUT (nutritionist) said that 10,000 mcg (pic attached) is the most that our bodies will absorb so that's what I take once a day. My hair is relaxed and has always shedded and like most people that do experience hair loss I has some 3 months post op. It wasn't too bad as in no one rise noticed. But there was definitely more hair left in my combs and brushes and it thinned a little. That lasted maybe a month and a half. The other thing I noticed is dandruff (I have to wash my hair more frequently) My scalp is way drier now and I suppose it's due to the fact that you just don't get as many fluids in post op The best thing you can do is what we're already supposed to be doing: drink your Water, get your Protein in, and take your Vitamins.< /p> Thanks Sleeve Siren , I started my Biotin a few weeks ago but I'm only taking 5000 mg. My acne is out of control feel like I'm 13 again. Lol so I doubt I will be brave enough to crank up the dosage 1 Sleeve Siren reacted to this
LIL RED 62 Posted July 7, 2014 I read to take some zinc with your Biotin on another thread. I tried it and it seems to be working .... No acne. Hair growth .... Nada. I have stopped shedding now hoping to see new growth. 1 Sleeve Siren reacted to this

I have stopped shedding now hoping to see new growth. I hadn't heard about the zinc. I also didn't know that Biotin could cause acne. That would explain my recent breakouts (I've never had skin problems before). Thanks for the tip. What dosage of the zinc do you take?
