Hi, I have a question for post - op I'm having my surgery on 7/3/14 and I'm due to start my summer session in college. Do anyone think that would be a bad idea. I have heard of people going back to work in a week. I figured I took two a off work and my class is days a week so I can recuperate the rest of the time I'm not at work. A couple of family members been saying I'm doing to much and now I'm second guessing myself please give me an advise you can thanks

I went back to work in less than week, and I was fine with everything. I think as long as you can get along without the pain meds, you should be good. Most people I know are off the serious pains meds within the first few days. Also you're encouraged to do alot of walking once the surgery is over, so you wouldn't want to stay still for too long right after surgery anyway. I think you should be good.

My support group does not really support those of us who are vets. I would like to know if you attended support groups what would your needs be? what would you talk about? What topics would keep you going back for more? We all know as vets our support needs are extremely different from when we started the journey thanks for your help.

Missviscious, I wouldn't recommend taking classes. Even though you feel like you're fine... You're still weak. I can remember me taking naps all of the time ( I'm not a nap taker). I took off two weeks and when I went back to work I was drained I could barely make it through the day. You feel fine but it's an adjustment.

Well I felt really good after a week and was back at work. My job consisted of me sitting so I was good. Everyone is different and experience things differently. So I think you will have to wait and see how you feel and go from there.

I would ask your doctor what's typical for his/her patients. For me I never had issues with being over tired... I started working from home after the first week, then was back in the office the following week. Going off of my own heeling, I think two days a week of class and studies will be fine... But I would still an your doctor what's typical of his/hee patients.

I would talk to your Dr. Everybody feels different. I was off 6 days and that included the weekend. I was fine when I went back to work. I work 9+ hours a day... If you walk a lot and follow your Dr.'s orders.. I think you will be fine with continuing to meet your educational goals as we'll...

Hi Misvicious,

I had surgery on May 28th and only missed 2 days of class; I could have gone back to work aft my follow up apptmt, but I opted to get further in summer school by taking advantage of the break. I thk it is do-able, just stay in check with your body.

Question: I am approximately 9 weeks out and for some reason today... food is like ewwww to me. I can't even manage to get myself to drink my Protein Shake this morning. So, I am sipping on tea to at least get my liquids in. I was wondering has anyone else experienced this.

@@woozybaby27, my recommendation to get start is to just hold on to your set belt and enjoy the ride. Also, don't go out and buy a whole lot of stuff. You will find that most will be wasted. In your first two weeks, don't beat yourself up because you're not getting your Protein in because you can't. Just focus on meeting your liquid requirements. For me I did nothing fancy like the homemade shakes and all that I just stuck to the basics and that worked for me. Welcome to the losing bench... as "they" say!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
