Hey Jazzeeja' date=' my surgeon is Dr. Clayton Frenzel and I am being sleeved at Forest Park in Dallas...I am actually in GrandPrairie. How is it going??? I a trying to find a good tasting ready made Protein drink...Any suggestions?[/quote']

I'm in Grand Prairie too! It is going great!! The first day of recovery was uncomfortable but it has gotten much better and easier as the days pass. I'm sure you've heard about the importance of walking ... It is so true. I'm convinced me walking daily (often several times a day) has helped my physical recovery. Yesterday I walked 3 miles, I was exhausted and had to rest for about 30 min but I did it!

In terms of RTD Protein Drink, stay away in the beginning. First, majority of them are a blended whey Protein vs. whey protein isolate. This means that you don't really know how much real protein you are actually getting. So if the label says 20g protein and it is a protein blend, you don't know how much of the 20g is real protein. We need whey protein isolate yo ensure we are getting the minimum of 60g protein daily. Second, they tend to taste good only when they are very cold and believe it or not, you may or may not be able to tolerate too cold drinks post surgery (especially right after).

So with all that said, I strongly suggest trying a number of different whey protein isolate powders. Do you like more juices or milkshake type of drinks? Also what flavors do you tend to like, vanilla, strawberry, chocolate, etc? Keep in mind that your taste buds will likely change, especially if you are a sweet eater. I can definitely make some recommendations based on what I've tried and what I have heard from others.

You can also make several different types of Protein shakes by adding in any of the following: unsweetened almond milk, SF flavored syrups, SF pudding, SF cool whip, yogurt (Greek or Kroger carb master), SF Jello, crystal light. There are some other mix ins but I can't think of them right now.

Give me an idea of what you currently like and I can make some suggestions for you. Also are you taking Vitamins?

I think the approval depends on your insurance company. My paperwork was submitted on Monday and I received a call Monday night. But I did not check my messages til tuesday morning. I will be sleeved on November 6. I'm going to vote then head to the hospital. LOL

Good luck and God bless you through your journey!

Hi fellow sleevers....I'm a lurker deciding to come out of the shadows. Thank you for allowing me to find a wealth of information on this website. I am implementing new ideas every week to better improve my chances of being a sleeve success. I am getting my sleeve (hopefully) from SAMMC San Antonio Military Medical Center. I hope to be done with the Pre-operative Checklist November 15 and get sleeved before the year is out.

Trying to figure out the best way to go about this pre-op diet. Currently I seem to only like the vanilla EAS carb control Protein drinks...strawberry if I mix frozen strawberries. chocolate...no!

What were some of your experiences with training the body to convert Protein to fuel as apposed to carbohydrates and what were some of the symptoms? for example head aches...jitters...fatigue? and how long did it last? I've gone natural with my hair and it is short for now...are any of you taking Biotin and is it helping with Hair loss?

Thanks in Advanced.

Hello everyone. I just had my sleeve done on 10/15 and it's already one of the best decisions I've ever made. I feel better after 9 days than I have in the last 10 years. I'm in the DC area and am looking forward to hearing all of your stories of success.

Pre-op, I did 3 EAS drinks per day and would have a Cafe Steamer meal for dinner. I tried to drink as much Water as I could possibly get in during the day. If I had a little relapse, I just started again the next day with the same pattern. I lost 10lbs in 2 weeks in my preop stage.

The headaches and sugar withdrawal symptoms lasted around 3-4 days. One day someone is going to prove that sugar is some type of narcotic :)

Hey that id good. Did u get ur approval yet? And if not do all doctors let you set your date?

I did not have to submit to insurance per se. I am a Military dependent (spouse) I am going through a Bariatric Program at a Military Hospital and once you complete your checklist the surgeon reviews and makes sure you have met all requirements.I had to do the same things most of you did with Nut and Psych and an Upper GI.Our surgeons don't let us pick random dates but they give us a window. That being said my surgeon called me yesterday and ..... I GOT A DATE!!!!

November 7th is my date which is T- 13 days away:) Now I am nervous.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
