Hello Ladies, I am currently Pre-op and my appointments are scheduled through the month of October, PCP Wellness check as well as Birth Control {getting the Mirena}. followed by 2 NUT, 1 Occupational Health, and group~ I'm super excited as I am a Military spouse and Hubby is due to return soon hopefully I can get a date the end of November so that he can take care of me and nurse me into better health~}

I enjoyed reading all of the wonderful stories you ladies have shared thus far but I do have a question~

For those who begin or continued to use Hormonal based Birth Control have you noticed a slower weight loss pattern than normal? I ask because I know from previous experience BC has caused me to feel bloated and pack on a few lbs~ What has your experience been like with Birth Control and being Sleeved???

I look forward to hearing about your experience~

That's a good question and something I never thought about. I do have the Mirena but i just got sleeved last Thursday so not sure how the hormones will impact the weight loss. Just based on how the procedure is done (removing a portion of your stomach and that portion contains the hunger hormone, graelin), I would think the BC hormones would have minimal impact on weight loss. And what would be impactful is how you work the surgery as a tool for weight loss. Of course we know that hormones can impact many different things, so who knows. Hopefully someone that has this experience will chime in ... Curious minds wanna know!!

How long after surgery do you need to wait to drive? I never gave any thought that I would not be able to drive post-op.

I was told I couldn't drive until I could turn on both sides with no pain & that took a week and a half you will be sore. Not pain but not wanting to move to much. Hope that helps :-)

Yes that helps. I thought it would be something ridiculous like 4-6 weeks.

It will depend on doctor's orders. I think the only thing that is standard is no driving while on pain med, i.e. narcotics. I've heard from some that they couldn't drive until cleared by their dr. at the 1 or 2 week post-op appt. my drs orders around driving were based on making sure the narcotics were out of the system. I think it had to be 24 hours after the last dose. My last dose was 30 ml fri night and I drove to Walmart Sun morning (just about 2 miles from my house) and was ok. I did have to take it easy getting in/out of the car but I felt ok to drive.

Are you sure about the mirena? I have heard that any IUD can slip with a large weight change and there are 2 people on the forum who became pregnant with IUDs recentlyI don't know if they had mirena or the copper...but also if you do want to become pregnant when you are cleared (idk if you do)you might want the copper because it doesn't use hormones.. My clinic wants me to use a secondary BC and I am going to get copper IUD if they insist but I don't have to worry about pregnancy bc my hubs had a vasectomy after our 3rd child.

I am glad to hear your hubs is returning my husband came back in June so u am glad I won't have that to worry about with my surgery either. IDK if I asked you already but where are you getting sleeved?

Everyone is so different. I have not really heard of two stories the same. I am almost a month out and feel a little better everyday. I had a lot of back pain I'm hospital and my stomach hurt very much. But in two weeks it was a lot better. Pain meds do work and please don't be afraid to take it. That is what it is for!! I find everyday my stomach bothers me a little but it's just getting use to everything. Keep your head up and stay confident you will be just fine!!

Hello all, sleeved 9/12 & I had few complications but these are the things I'm currently dealing w/:

1.Stuck feeling goin down w/ any food(want this gone soon - I did have a hiatal hernia repair)

2. Left side pain(getting better & better each week, I constantly have a heating pad on which has really helped me)

3. I have been spotting since a few days after surgery & I'm sick of that as well - been on bc since my daughter was born & she is now 17 so been a long time, I take Seasonique, well Camrese now which is same just generic & so I only get 4 periods a year & so mine Sony even due to come until maybe November but I haven't stopped spotting since the surgery - does anyone know when this will subside??

I was re-hospitalized a week after surgery due to de-hydration & my left side pain...

I am feeling a lil better each day but still not myself..

I have had plenty of regret days in the last few weeks but mainly the stuck feeling & the period/spotting is making we wanna go insane - someone help-anyone experiencing either of these or went thru it but it subsided?? Thanks in advance...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
