Bandme1 12 Posted June 30, 2011 Hey all! I am getting sleeved on July 18, just 18 little days away! I'm so excited! I am glad I found this thread because a lot of the things I've read on here are from older people or people who are far more overweight so it's hard to compare how fast I will be healing, etc. I am having my surgery on a Monday and am planning on returning to work the following Monday. I think the thing I'm most worried about is the skin afterwards. I keep telling myself that since I'm younger it will bounce back over time but I think I might be kidding myself. lol. Any tips from those who have already been sleeved?
Candace2314 117 Posted June 30, 2011 My arms are a little saggy but I definitely use the row machine at the gym at least 2 or 3 times a week. I say just get into the mindset that exercise is and should be a very important part of your life. It may not improve the saggy skin but you energy level will be through the roof, you will look alot more toned, and you will be sexy That's exciting, 18 more days!!!!! Fat4now 7 Posted July 3, 2011 Hello Everyone! I'm 26 and I am still pre op...I planned on having surgery in Mexico but changed my mind and decided to try insurance first. So now, here I am doing the 6 month supervised diet. It is a little depressing knowing that I will have to wait a while to have surgery but I have went this long...I'm sooo excited about surgery and can't wait to be on the losers bench. I probably won't have surgery until January though. But my day is coming....Congrats to you all for your accomplishments--I love reading other peoples stories! Is there anyone in the Charlotte NC area?
msleesa 5 Posted July 4, 2011 Hi Fat4now. I actually used to live in Charlotte for a while. I went to JWU downtown. I still go there often to visit my best friend. I'm having my procedure done in mexico. My insurance covered the procedure however, I would have had to switch the plan I was on, and have to wait the 6 months that you're doing now. I'm somewhat impatient and didn't want to go that route. I waited two months and saved up for Dr. Kelly in Tijuana. He's one of the cheaper Doctors but has been doing this procedure for 9 years. Best of luck on your 6 month diet. I really hope that the insurance approves you.
wishes 125 Posted July 4, 2011 @candaceshenea: You know I am, lol. I dying to be sleeved already, but this is for the long haul, and if my insurance covers everything then it will only 832 dollars and some cents, so it will be worth it. How are you doing in the WL department?
kittenator 0 Posted August 3, 2011 Hi everyone! I am 26 years old and at 5' 4" and 300 pounds, I drew the line. I had surgery in late January. Over the last 6 months I have lost 75 pounds without much effort. I feel like such a cheater! I don't count calories and still drink sodas, though I put high emphasis on Protein. The doctor told me to expect 8 pounds a month loss average, and I have been averaging 12.5. To boot, my skin has begun to catch up with the weightloss. I know there will come a point in my weight loss where I will have to more consciously modify my eating/drinking. I think I am just taking this one stage at a time. I have become accustomed to the rapid weight loss though and I fear it will stop abruptly. Anyway, I also wonder if my unqualified success has more to do with age and genetics than anything. My problem pre-surgery was a lack of full sensation. The surgery fixed that. Does anyone else feel like this has been too easy? Anyway, I am very happy with my decision and I would do it all over again! Tip for the ladies: After surgery supporting your stomach is essential but who wants to wear the giant elastic belt? After a few days I transitioned to flexees "fat free dressing" slimming cami tanks (from target usually). I weighed 300 pounds and the XXL kept my stomach well supported while shaping. I'm kinda addicted now cause it keeps the loose skin reigned in! ~Roxy
Nicole85 5 Posted September 10, 2011 Hello twenties!! I'm 25 and weigh 249. I am getting sleeved on the 21st of september. Considering our age, are there many issues with saggy skin and breast or Hair loss? Are you guys happy with your decision or are there any regrets? I'm excited and scared at the same time. What about stretch marks, has anyone developed stretch marks due to the weightloss or saw an improvement in existing marks post surgery.
Candace2314 117 Posted September 11, 2011 I think I've seen improvement on the stretch marks around my tummy region, but the ones on my arms seem ti be getting worse. The saggy skin didnt bother me so much until I went to the gym today( my first time in about 3 weeks) and it was annoying. Congrats on your upcoming sleeve surgery! I wish you nothing but the best
Bandme1 12 Posted September 12, 2011 Hello twenties!! I'm 24 and started at 243. I was sleeved on July 18 and I am down 40 pounds since starting my pre-op diet in May. So far, I am starting to notice that my skin gets like... wrinkly looking almost? I think it's because I'm losing pretty quickly and my skin hasn't had time to tighten up yet. I've read that it takes about a year for your skin to shrink to the point that it's going to stay at. So I'll give it more time. As far as the stretch marks, I don't think you can develop stretch marks from losing weight. Only from gaining because the skin is being stretched to accommodate the extra weight. So, no new stretch marks and I haven't seen an improvement in stretch marks. They are pretty much here to stay whether I'm skinny or fat. Losing weight won't get rid of stretch marks, it will just keep you from getting more. Unfortunately, there is no treatment that completely gets rid of stretch marks although there are creams and gels and laser treatments that can help reduce their appearance. I'm just happy to be on the road to being healthy. I am down 40 pounds and feel fabulous. I haven't regretted my decision to have the surgery. Not for a single second. Not even in the week after surgery. It is the best thing I have ever done for myself and I would do it again tomorrow if I had to. =) I was SO nervous going in to surgery. I was so scared and even though I had done all the research I still just felt so scared like it was going to be really painful. It was nothing like I was expecting. I was back to work in a week and the hardest part was being tired and getting worn out so easily. Overall, best decision ever. =)
wishes 125 Posted September 14, 2011 I was sleeved 12 days ago. At the beginning of the 6MWLS, I weighed 257 lbs, and with the pre-op diet and surgery.... I have lost 41.8 lbs. I am so happy to finally be losing the weight again. I do not regret this surgery. Only that, I ruined my body with my excessive weight before I got it. My stretch marks are pretty bad. I am hoping time will allow them to fade a little, but I am not hopeful.
emily_0192010 168 Posted September 14, 2011 Hey everyone! I see that we have a few new people in here I am going to be sleeved on Monday (sep 19th) and I can't wait. So far pre-op I have lost 32 lbs and have lost 21% of my excess weight. I have been losing consistently so far and I hope that at a minimum my sleeve will help me keep it up and at best boost my weekly weight loss! I am also hoping that being young will help my skin bounce back, but I can already see some saggy-baggy-elephant skin so I'm not terribly hopeful. I, along with everyone else it seems, have really bad stretch marks as well. I'm not opposed to having this "fixed" later, but I am really hoping that I won't have to.
