Waking Up Startled

Recommended Posts

This is my first full day home after being sleeved. I think I'm doing great. Got all of my Vitamins in (2 multis, B12, Iron, and Pepcid Complete.) So far I have had 8 oz. of chicken broth, 27 oz. of Water, and three popcyles. Does that sound like I am on the right path?

I've been taking a nap every few hours. When I lay down I fall right asleep and feel like I have many dreams. More time than not though, I wake startled from something in my dream. I even talked out loud once when I going to sleep. This is not all the normal for me. Has anyone experiences it? If so, please share.

YES!! I did too. Three day's post op. I was so so confused, I started to panic. I think it's from the pain mediciation. I am now 12 days out, and other than some soreness where the drain was placed...I feel great.

YEP! And I believe it's the pain meds... Mine actually started in the hospital. Sometimes they would jolt me so much it would hurt my incisions. It DOES go away. I'm a week post op and it's gone.

Weird! I thought it was just me! I would wake up every 2 hours or so with a jolt - thought it was a new phase in my dreaded insomnia but it DID clear up and I sleep pretty good now.

I would wake up startled, too. My reason was different than yours. I was waking up because the pain meds knocked me out so much that when I tried to sip some Water, I would hold it then fall asleep and dump it on myself! That definitely startled me awake! :P

Deedle, that's funny. Poor girl. Nothing worse than a wet bed.

It's the drugs.... it will take a while for them to wear out of your system, and certain drugs they give you during and after surgery can have some DARNED strange reactions.

It may also be the pain meds they give you to take home.. certain ones make things seem very wierd... go online and look up the reactions for whatever drug they sent you home with.

Just keep drinking your Water and wash it all out.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
