Having a hard time eating, drinking all of my liquids any suggestions?

Recommended Posts

Hey everybody. I had my surgery on 12-30-10. I was sleeved. So my surgery was two weeks ago. I went yesterday to the health food store and bought a few Isopure Protein Drinks (it has 40g) of Protein in one 20 oz bottle. I have been trying to drink this one bottle since last night and I still have about 5 oz left. I am scared to death of not eating enough protein and scared my hair will fall out. But its almost like I have to force myself to eat/drink something. I mostly only drink the protein drinks and chicken broth or beef broth. I have tried eating jelly. I can only eat maybe 2 bites. Afraid I am not getting enough of everything....Any help or suggestion would be much appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, I was sleeved on Dec 29, so I am on the same time line as you. I found that the Protein drinks were really hard to stomach until about 4 days ago. I think they were just too heavy. I use the EAS Myoplex in chocolate with 23g Protein. I got a 5lb bag for $30.00 at Sam's Club, which at three shakes a day, lasts a little over 3 weeks. Mixed with skim milk, I get 31g protein per drink. I tried the Gator-aid that has the protein in it, and I still can not drink it. So maybe it is the type of protein your are choosing.

I hope your able to start with some more substantial foods soon. I was allowed to move to pureed foods today, although, I have had one pureed meal a day for the last 3 days. I would try to stay away from the jelly, very high in sugar. Have you tried some yogurt or cottage cheese? I found those to be very easy on my stomach. I haven't been able to do oatmeal at all yet, also too heavy.

Interesting side note, I have a bad dream last night about losing my hair and so I have started to be very vigilant about getting everything I that I am supposed to. I am praying that I don't lose my hair.

Good luck to you, This journey has a huge learning curve.

We are all 3 on the same timeline. I was also sleeved on 12/30/10. I am eating pureed at this point, and tend to mainly eat cottage cheese, cream Soups, yogurts, and SF puddings. I am not meeting my Protein goal yet, so I am going to start adding the flavorless Protein Powder to my pureed foods. I also drink the Myoplex Lite. I drink the premixed individual ones. They are more expensive, but I can't handle the texture of the powdered kind. Good Luck.

fitnessroad.com. They are the company that beliteweight that I scheduled my surgery with referred me to. They have a Liquid Protein that 2 spoonfuls fulfill your daily Protein need. They strongly advised me to use that right after surgery to avoid hair issues. I have not been sleeved yet but that is who I ordered my pre-op stuff from. I don't have their number handy but I'm sure it's on their website and they are very familiar with the surgery and what all you need. Hope that helps.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
