Question about sipping clears the fist week

Recommended Posts

Got sleeved on Thursday. I feel pretty good. When I sip Water or any other clear liquid it kind of hurt when it its my stomach. And I'm talking about really small sips. I'm sure this is normal, but how long will that last?

For me every day was a little better, lots of swelling in there! I found warm herbal tea to help a bit.

Hi there, I am just a few days ahead of you in being sleeved. Myori is right, every day gets better. I can drink a lot more now, and a lot faster, than I could just a few days ago. If I drink too much or too fast my tummy grumbles but I can feel improvement every day. Just do your best each day to get to 64 oz. and you will soon be there!

I was sleeved on 1/3. All sips hurt but especially Water for some reason. One day I just woke up and it didn't hurt anymore. I went to the doctor on Wednesday (10 days Post op) and he added yogurt, eggs and Protein Shakes. I start full liquids on day 14 post op. I can tell you this.....I tried eating an egg every day and it does NOT feel too good. I keep trying it again each day. I have been very lucky...no naseau or vomiting.. Good luck and email me if you need any questions.

This is perfectly normal. My description of drinking for the first few days post op was, "sip-burp-sip-pain-sip-eep-sip-pain-sip-burp"

Now I can gulp with no issues... a week post op (not saying you should, but I accidently did and it didn't hurt... I'm actually glad I can otherwise there'd be NO way I could get my liquids in)

Do you guys get that full feeling between your breast? I'm going on day 7. Not getting in all Protein or Water getting better but hate that feeling! I have had that since surgery

I read somewhere that the reason plain Water feels so icky early out is that because of its Ph, it tends to sit on top of the acid in our stomachs, and that having some sort of flavoring in it (crystal lite, propel, tea, whatever) changes the Ph so that it mixes in. I have no idea whether or not that's true, but I know that plain Water for the first 3-4 months just felt kind of "hard" and uncomfortable... I'd have to take a few sips, wait, and sip again, whereas with Crystal Lite or Propel I could take a few chugs (I'm talking several weeks out here, not immediately post-op. It still took me 45-60 minutes to get through a bottle of Propel those first few weeks).

Then, I dunno if it's because the swelling went down or what, water started getting easier and by about 6 months out, felt completely normal with full chugging and no issues at all.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
