Kaiser Harbor City - APRIL

Recommended Posts

My surgery date is April 6th! Perfect timing as my school break starts that Friday after! Any other Kaiser Harbor City patients? I'm on a low cal/carb diet to lose at least 15lbs before my surgery (doctor's orders)....hopefully will lose more than that in 3 months! The only issue is that I want a larger sleeve, right now he is offering me a 36FR. I know the difference between the other sizes are minimal, but this is for my peace of mind. I am hoping for no smaller than a 40FR.

Congrats! Who is doing your surgery? I had Dr. Zane who usually only uses a size 32.

Hey There! I have the new Kaiser surgeon, Dr Mun. I really wanted Dr Zane but was assigned to Dr Mun because his schedule is really open right now. I had my individual consultation last week but still have to attend a group consultation. That threw me off because I was really looking forward to listening to each of the surgeons and then taking my pick.

I understand Dr Zane's schedule is not open for consultation until early March and then his surgery schedule is booked to Labor Day already.

I am familiar with Dr Mun, since he was with South Bay Surgeons in Torrance and my mother had her lapband installed by them.

How was Dr Zane with the range of sleeve he was willing to accept? Is he strict with 32FR only or open to larger sizes?

Hi, I'm doing Options in Corona and will mostly likely get referred to Harbor City. How does it work when you finish the classes? Do they just assign you to a surgeon without providing any information? I have only heard about Dr. Zane and Dr. Belzberg from Harbor City. Did Dr. Mun replace one of them or do they have three now? Is Harbor City our only choice? I'm a bit frustrated that they keep us in the dark so much about the post-Options process. I like to research!

Does anyone have Dr. Zane's phone number or the phone number at Harbor City? I just looked through the KP web site and couldn't find the number. Thanks!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
