HELP WITH POST OP MUST HAVES

Recommended Posts

Hello all sleevers!

This has probably been asked hundreds of times but here goes:

what was on your must have list after surgery?

I'm three weeks before i go in for my sleeve, and would like to hear what ya'll needed, and had to have for comfort, food, hygene E.T.C.

Experience speaks volumes.

Thanks.

Dave

Here are a couple of things that I did which were key:

  • Got a variety of shake samples (Chicke, Wheybolic, etc).
  • Got a variety of other Protein supplements (Healthwise, nectar drinks, Isopuke).
  • Made sure my house was very clean and all my chores were done (because you won't want to do this post op for a while).
  • Got all of my post-op meds before surgery so I didn't have to go the pharmacy on the way home.
  • Got a Blender Bottle (for making shakes)
  • Got set up to puree things (you can do anything from a jar attachment for your blender to the "Ninja").
  • Put my emergency numbers on the fridge, so they are handy.
  • Bought some anti-bacterial soap for washing around the incisions.
  • Bought some baby spoons (these were surprisingly handy, and still are!)
  • Stocked up on some DVDs for the first couple of days on meds.
  • I already had this, but I found I used a heating pad a lot the first couple of days.
  • Got a variety of hot teas to drink (this goes down easier than cold Water sometimes).

hope that helps!

I'm in the same boat as you. So far I've gotten a list of movies on itunes that I want to watch..same with a list of books on kindle. I've gotten my shopping lists together for proteins/vitamins/sugar free stuff/etc. We've gotten our bedroom very clean and organized so the weekend before it's a matter of bedding, vacuuming and getting things set up. Maybe I can convince dh to move the tv/cable box upstairs? Hrmmm good idea ;) I've gotten waxed & a pedicure. I'm making a packing list (based on the hospital list from the forum) for the hospital.

I'm interested to see other responses too.

If your doctor uses a drain. Be sure to have extra gauze pads and tape to change dressing. Be sure to have a variety of Clear Liquids (broth). I thought the unflavored Unjury was helpful. I bought Protein Shots called "Proasis" they are the BEST. 25g of Protein in 2.9oz. I poured a little in my tea with each sip. I also drank out of shot glasses to remind me to sip.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
