I am so happy you found some answers. I too have been more proactive in my own health for a while now. Researching online and reading has really helped me solve some of my own issues. I get very frustrated at drs for their lack of care and concern. The ones here make you wait 3-4 hrs to see them then walk in the room, barely even make eye contact, then leave the room, usually before you've had time to think of any questions to ask. So 3-4 hrs waiting to get less than 5 mins of their time. Ridiculous!!!!

The way your dr treated you is horrible. That was abuse if you ask me. Even if there wasn't a med affecting your loss, there is NO reason to treat a patient in that manner. Then to laugh at you?????? OMG I wanna slap him so bad!! He knows you had this done, he is treating you and one of the first things he should of done was look at your meds. I am truly appalled. I am so sorry you went through this, especially at a time you were probably already feeling bad and blaming yourself as it was. You trusted his skills and knowledge, and as drs we go in assuming they care about their patients. I am seriously sitting here questioning HIS sanity and mental stability. To be rude, uncaring, then downright cruel is unexcusable!

I hope you are able to report him, but if not I would definitely confront him, tell him what you discovered, tell him you think his behavior was unacceptable, and I would insist there be another medical person there as witness so anything he says back to you, you will have a witness. I would try not to be emotional, use an even tone of voice so he can't try to tell anyone you were a raving looney so he can put the blame on you. Then I would never see him again and tell him you are going to tell everyone you know, go to the newspaper and media to expose him and if their are websites that he's on that will allow you to leave a review, do it!! No wonder so many of us go to Mexico!! Not just cost but the arrogance of some drs is sickening. Bariatric patients generally already have low self esteem problems, without jerks like him to contribute to that. I am so p.o'd!!!!!! Sorry for my outburst lol

Are a$$hole doctors only found in the good ol' US of A? Not one in Mexico or elsewhere beyond our borders? Pleeeeze, give me a break. Red flags go up as soon as someone is on one of these threads trashing the doctors in America and praising the doctors in Mexico, whoever their physician of choice happens to be. I always wonder.....is this person a staff member; is this a patient who is getting a kickback.

Ever notice that other than recommendations from some of us IF asked for a doctor in a specific area, we don't sound like advertisements? Further more - If someone doesn't like my doctor, I don't care. I'm not going to get on here and defend him to high heaven, actually, I'm not going to defend him at all. He doesn't need ME doing that, it's not my place! Everyone has a different experience, he's been voted one of Dallas' Top Docs for 17 years, but I betcha there is someone in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area that doesn't like him and has has a less than wonderful experience with Dr. Wonderful. (that's what I call him!)

My gosh, someone say something bad about Dr. A in Mexico and Katy bar the door!!! It's almost comical. I mention him because he's the one that comes to mind. I don't trust any of you that get on here acting like the doctors here are a bunch of low life quacks and we need to cross the border to get good health care at a good price. To each his own. Me, I wanted a Center of Excellence and follow up care that was on going, support groups led by staff members I knew. A dietitian whose cell phone number is programmed into my cell phone number.....When we had our own computer consulting business (custom built systems) we use to run an ad, "You get what you pay for" - people paid a little more, but they were paying for customer support, personal service etc. To some it was worth it, to some, they went to Best Buy for their computer....but Best Buy did not come set up a system "From Santa" on Christmas Eve. I think everyone should do what works for them! .

Hmmm how many people do you think went to Mexico purely for the Doctor? Looking at the threads, it seems like most went to Mexico because:

1. No insurance and it is cheaper in MX

2. Were denied by their insurance

3. Didn't meet insurance requirements so they paid out of pocket

I [personally] don't think people are saying the MX Doctors are better than US Doctors... nor did they choose to go to MX because the quality was just so outstanding. The people that go to MX for WLS probably love their results and the treatment they received - but there are many post contrary to that opinion. It is definitely subjective to the patient.

I think we have good and crappy Doctors everywhere - US and abroad. It is important for people to voice their experiences with bad Doctors because it might save someone else some heartbreak, or even death.

I am not knocking the MX Doctors, but I think we have tons of amazing bariatric surgeons here in the US - some are leaders in the world! That is awesome stuff. Each person has to do what is right for them, and sometimes that means going outside the US for service.

For the original topic starter, I honestly feel bad for him/her. What Dr (US or otherwise) would treat a patient like that? What was that Dr thinking? I would have checked his attitude right then and there. Hell no, you have PhD but you are not my mom/dad/GOD. I would have gave him the business and walked the hell out - never to return. Grrrr.

So bad Doctors? Yeah they are out there. One country better than the other? HAH... I seriously doubt that our best US Dr's pale in comparison to Mexican Dr's. Just another reason to research your Dr, and not accept poor service.

I totally agree. If you'll research medical care in Mexico, you'll see that many, many of the physicians attend medical school in the United States and medical care in Mexico is safe. It is not said anywhere that it's superior. You'll find 'quacks' every where, in every country. You'll find doctors, that MAY be wonderful physicians that have horrible bedside manner in every country as well. My grandson has a superior orthopedic surgeon, one of the best in Texas to deal with the tiny bones in his wrist. I'm sure this has inflated his ego....he's a jerk. Well, they're dealing with him because they need him. He isn't mean, just not a really nice, caring man. He does his job, and is doing a fine job.....he isn't anything like the a$$ mentioned in the earlier post.....like you said, I'd have walked out and tried to find someone to report him to. I'd be willing to bet, this was NOT a "Center of Excellence". Anyway....point is, to make a blanket statement about a group of people like that is just one step above biogtry if you ask me....not to be taken seriously.

Don't give up! It sounds like your doctor is just a jerk!

Find someone who actually cares about their patients.

Good luck!

Oh man, I am so sorry. What a lack of professionalism that doctor exhibited. We are all here for you, when you are frustrated and need to vent. I am praying for you, and I hope you find another doctor, someone who is not only professional but kind. (Hugs)

I just came back from my check-up and I have lost little weight, so the “program” isn’t working for me. I left the doctor’s office crying after trying to explain about my IBS issues and why I cannot eat in the mornings. Right away the doctor wanted to blame me and he picked me apart in his office until I broke down and laughed at me. I asked him to help work the program around me rather than me for the program since not everyone is the same. I was humiliated and now I just don’t care anymore. I cannot get a physician to help with my nerve pain from a previous surgery that a doctor messed up on so I can exercise and I am tired of buying the expensive food, Vitamins, emotional; stress, and other BS this surgery has brought. I was told/accused of eating over what I should, which is BS, and that I must be responsible somehow, maybe the program should re-evaluate how patients are different, I was put on a high Protein and low calorie diet by the WL program and hit the floor as a result! I’ve held my chin up and made enormous changes to my life, but all that doesn’t matter-enough is enough, I just can’t keep letting this lifestyle drain me physically and emotional, I give up.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
