Breakfast foods high in protein?

Recommended Posts

Hi all, just curious what you all eat for Breakfast other than eggs or yogurt. I don't like either. Someone mentioned turkey sausage on another thread, and I will try it for sure! Any other high-protein breakfast options?

A thick slice of deli chicken and an easy over egg: 180 calories, 32 g of Protein -- MY CURRENT FAVORITE!!!!

bagel-300x298.png

Mini whole wheat bagel with turkey sausage: 220 calories, 14 g of Protein (nice breakfast sandwich on the go)

toast-150x150.jpg

Whole grain toast, 1 egg and 2 turkey sausages: 240 calories, 15 g of protein (didn't make it through the whole thing)

breakfast-150x150.jpg

Slice of baguette, 1/2 egg mixed with Eggbeater, 2 turkey sausages: 170 calories, 14 g of protein

Other options are a mini bagel with 2 oz. of smoked salmon which should be around 180 calories and 10 g of protein - add a little cream cheese to extra goodie!

I often have turkey chili now that we're having cold (for us) weather in San Antonio. Low in calories and carbs and high in Protein. I often don't eat "breakfast food" for breakfast. I like your musical ticker, DivaCakes.

Suzanne,

I have been told I can't eat bread, rice or Pasta and yet I see you have bread in 3 out of 4 pictures you posted as ideas (they look good, of course anything would after 6 weeks of liquid and pureed food!) How does this work with your sleeve? I am being led to believe that bread or soft pastries will clog my sleeve? would this be an individual matter that you just experimented with?

Hey Jody,

I eat bread as well. Not a whole lot and maybe only a few bites at most. They have to either be whole grain or wheat -OR- very high in Fiber. Otherwise I do NOT eat it. It has never clogged my sleeve.

That being said, my surgeon never told me I couldn't eat it. You should always do what your surgeon advises. You can always discuss it with him/her or your Nutritionist. Sometimes they can offer alternatives for each individual.

Good luck!!

OP: I also really love Lean Turkey Bacon. It's really very good, if you haven't tried it yet. I loved all the ideas from Susanne... yum!!!

I too have bread but only toasted! I have tried bread itself and it just felt so heavy and I didn't like that feeling! When I toast a piece of bread and put an egg on it it's great!

I don't have a problem with most breads. I did have a slice of really heavy, whole grain bread with seeds that I used to love - that was a little much for me and only one slice made me uncomfortably fool.

Other than that, bread is just part of a weekend morning. During the week, I actually have a Protein shake for convenience, but on the weekend I usually like a nicer breakfast

Morning Star Veggie Patties (original is what I like). They are 80 calories and 10 grams of Protein per patty. I can usually eat about 1 and 3/4 in one sitting so it's almost 20 grams of Protein.

my go to breakfast right now is 1/4 c eggbeater scrambled with 1 tbsp of real bacon bits and 1/4 c of cheese. I am still not able to eat more than this for breakfast yet. This is 150 calories with 17 grams of Protein and only 2 carbs. I cannot do all that bread/toast at this time as I can look at carbs and I will go into a stall. :o

i also love the morningstar sausages -- both the patties and the links. i do amy's vegetarian breakfast burritos. the jimmy dean turkey sausage sandwiches made with egg whites on an english muffin are good -- but would be tough early with the sleeve. dunkin doughnuts has a new fantastic egg white sandwich on flatbread with turkey sausage in it. yum.

I eat 1 tbsp of PB on toast. I love turkey bacon. i've moved to the type with no nitrates -- less sodium. it's divine. the only downside is it goes bad quicker, so i just cook up two big batches over a few days. some people think this is weird, but i love the turkey bacon on the Peanut Butter toast!

there's a great recipe for a high Protein breakfast from the south beach diet book. basically it's this:

spray muffin tins with Pam or other spray

combine eggbeaters with a little salt, any type of seasoning a little milk... add in a little onion and a little chopped spinach. pour into muffin tins, about 3/4 full.

top with a bit of cheddar cheese.

bake at 350 for about 20 minutes or until the eggbeater is cooked.

these are great because you can pack them to go to work and re-heat in microwave

that said, i don't have a sleeve yet -- so my options aren't quite as limited -- yet!

enjoy.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
