Gaining weight???

Recommended Posts

So I weighed myself about 3-4 days ago and I was at 224.4. My diet has not changed. Maybe I have consumed slightly less Water or Protein but for the most part... it has been protein supplements and water. I weighed myself yesterday and I was at 226.8. REALLY?!

How the hell is this possible? Someone please explain or help or whatever because I really am stumped and frustrated.

The only thing I can think is if I am consuming not enough calories (I Know I am not but I don't know how to get more in when I am supposed to have 3 2oz meals and no Snacks and just protein drinks). My total daily is around 400ish. And I get in 50-60g of protein. And on avg 40oz water (I know I need more, but it is so hard!).

Thanks in advance for any advice or info.

I was just at a support group meeting in my area and learned that we can gain up to 10lbs in Water weight! Yikes! And it can be for varying reasons, hormones, stress, sodium. Your body has just been through a lot and still recovering too! It happened to me too...I lost 2lbs and then gained back 1.5lbs. But it came back off and then some. I know it is hard, I have been struggling too, but it will come back off!

Not only water weight, but you just were sleeved on the 28th, your body is still swollen and trying to recover. . this was a major surgery. . . just keep on doing what your doing only do one thing, get rid of that scale. . your getting obsessed. . .if not, then at least weigh only 1 time per week or every other week. . .you don't need to be weighing that often. . . good luck and be patient. . . give yourself time to heal

It's most likely just Water weight. The human body is mostly composed of Water so if your body decides to keep/flush water out of your system it has a big impact on your weight.

I try and measure my weight only once a week so I don't get too hung up on numbers or get fooled by water weight.

I tend to agree it's a combination of just having surgery with excess fluids and your body wanting to hold on right now. Your body has gone through a MAJOR change - it needs time to cope and re-assess.

As for the Water, that is the MOST IMPORTANT step at this time. You have to keep yourself hydrated.

Last month, I had an unexplained 6 pound gain. It must have been Water, because within 2 weeks, I had a 7 pound loss. Just keep what you are doing, it will come off. I know it is discouraging in the meantime, but it will come off - PROMISE!

Definitely, don't stress about it! There's simply no way you are gaining anything other than Water weight. I think our bodies go through a lot right after surgery, and you have to realize how much water weight affects you. I've been stalling for a couple of weeks now, and I know it's just my body re-adjusting after surgery. Just focus on following your doctor's orders: water, Protein, and exercise!

I agree that it may be Water weight. I would use the scale as an indicator rather then the end all be all. I finally bought a scale (the first I ever owned in my adult life) a few days after my 1 week post-op appt. Then the few days after, I didn't see any movement. I took a look at my food intake and tried to cut back on the carbs and increase the Protein. I saw some movement after. I also know that I am going to starting to retain water in the next week. So if the scale doesn't budge for a few days, relax.... you will fluctuate as many times in a week as you can in a day.

I know for a lot of people that the weight fluctuations can drive them crazy to the point of putting away the scale. I on the other hand like to know what my body is doing so I don't beat myself up on it. I sometimes weigh myself several times a day, just to see how much I fluctuate. I noticed a pattern. BTW, my weight varies 2-5 pounds throughout a single day. If I get up early, I weigh more. I weigh the least about 8 AM. Around mid afternoon, I gain some, again around late evening I gain some. As long as I keep losing, and the scale keeps going down each month, I will be happy.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
