How much was your self pay?

Recommended Posts

$11,200 with Dr. Mark Pleatman in Bloomfield Hills, MI. That included $200 initial consult fee (which my insurance did cover, minus the co-pay), his fee, the hospital fee, anesthesia, 1-2 nights in the hospital (typically one, but if for some reason an extra night is needed, it's covered), meeting with the nutritionist and exercise chick, support group, and two years of follow-up visits. His office specializes in out-of-town patients and from what I hear, they're great about helping people handle arrangements. I'm lucky enough to live only 45 minutes away, so that wasn't a concern for me. I've been very pleased!

17,500 here in San Francisco, where EVERYTHING is arbitrarily expensive. The surgeon fee is 10,000, hospital is 6500, and anesthesia is 1000. I asked if I could opt out of the anesthesia, no go. :/

I'm shooting for 2/10 if I could raise the cash. I was 100% sure this is what I wanted until last night when I read that post about the catheter... no one ever mentioned that before. My resolve has since returned. Phew!

WHAT ? I must have missed the post about the catheter I will be checking that real quick . Whered did you find it ?

I had my surgery with Dr. Pompa in Mexico. I went through a facilitator here in Canada, and it cost just under $10,000. My flight alone was almost $800. That covered my stay at the clinic, and 3 nights in the Grand Hotel Tijuana. There is also other things included in the price as I went with a facilitator company (clothing exchange, support groups, photos, etc).

I also went with Dr. Pompa and she was phenomenal! She really cares about her patients and the facility is very clean and comfortable. I never felt uncomfortable with any of her staff members and they all spoke very good english! LIMARP is the name of her surgical facility. Definitely do your research, I was self pay too and I know I would do it all over again :)

I had mine with Dr. David Treen and Dr. Todd Bellott down here in New Orleans. My entire surgery, hospital stay, 1yr post op and bliss insurance in case of complications was 13,658. I had a private room with excellent care and a very proactive doctor in treating nausea and vomiting. If you google david treen he has a video that dateline did on him and this type of surgery. shop around and you will find what you are looking for.

I had a revision from lab band to sleeve by Dr. Aceves for $10,000.

I can't recommend him highly enough. He has sleeved over half the people on this board and you won't find

anyone who has anything but wonderful things to say about him, the staff and the beautiful hospital.

In San Antonio. 14500 for surgeon and hospital including hospital tests and anesthesia etc. 2 night stay private room. Additionally, 225 for pysch eval and 1500 for cardiology clearance. Doctor includes one yéar follow up and access to nutritionist. Followup blood tests our responsibility. I think that is common.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
