Does anyone here use CalorieCount.About.com?

Recommended Posts

I've used this site for almost 2 years now because once I started and had tagged all my personal favorites of food, I didn't want to start over somewhere else.

BUT, I am frustrated with it because it won't allow me to put my personal daily goals less than 1200 calories, so even though I'm tracking my food, etc. I get the "thumbs down" (which of course I ignore) on most things because of course on a 1,200 calorie a day diet, I'm not eating that much (not quite 3 months out yet.) I'm using it mainly to track my calories, Protein and carb intake, and I really do like the "analysis" button that you can click on at any point in your day to see where you are at, but I would like to customize it for me, being a WLS patient. Ugh.

So does anyone know how to circumvent not going below 1,200 calories on their settings??

Or do you have a site that you just love (like spark people or whatnot) and want to convince me to switch? Thoughts welcome!

I've been using Livestrong.com. It has calorie counter/food logs, weight/bmi logs, and exercise logs. The food log is nice because it lets you enter anything that might not be in their (huge) database, it has 'official' items entered by manufacturers, and it remembers things you've eaten when searching for items to enter (so if you entered a 1/4 cup of breakstone's lowfat cottage cheese yesterday and ate it again today, it will be right at the top of the search results when you start entering cottage cheese). I haven't started exercising yet so I don't have much feedback on the exercise logging. There's also iPhone and iPad apps if you happen to have one of those devices (android too perhaps).

I like my BodyBugg they use on the Biggest Loser. I love the tracking system connected with that.

I am planning on a blog post for this. Short version, I was in the same boat using TheDailyPlate for several years. My biggest gripe was that they never got the Android app to work. I have a huge backlog of foods, meals etc. but I knew it was time for a change. Bumblestich, no Android app from Livestrong...

I posted on here and asked for tips and most people recommended www.myfitnesspal.com and I like it. I switched and actually made the effort of entering old data to the first of the year so I have a complete new start with all data for 2011. I am sorry that I am losing my weight, food and exercise data of the past, but if you are unhappy you need to switch - and the earlier the better. MFP is free, allows custom calorie goals (mine is 900 right now), it also allows you to set percentages for carbs, Protein and fat (and other nutrients too) and the Android app is cool. I mean, it is COOL! Or KEWL! Why you ask? Because you can actually scan your food with the camera of your phone. Scan the barcode and voila - there is your food. No searching, no picking the right one - barcode does it all. And yes, I am that much of a geek that it gets me seriously giddy to just think about it, LOL

Me too! One of the best investments ever. I use it all day every day, and it really helps to keep me on track with food and fitness. I would be lost without it.

It won't let me go down below 1000 for my daily calorie goals, but I really don't mind, because there's really no chastisement or anything that it won't let me do if I dont make that goal.

If anyone ever decides to get one, be sure to purchase the digital display as well...or you could also get the SP version that syncs up to any smartphone. The ability to get immediate feedback (rather than waiting until you upload your bodybugg) is crucial.

Thanks ladies for your input. It looks like I need to do some research. And Susanne, thank you, I am getting ready to upgrade my phone and it WOULD be nice to enter food on my food instead of always being at the computer to log it.

I too use fitday, for about three years now. I like that you can put your body measurements and track certain goals, such as if you want to track your sodium, or something like that versus your typical fat, pro, carbs, etc.

I know there is one on prevention.com too that I signed up for but never use.

I might check out some of these others too, I have surgery on Thursday, so I would like to pick the ONE that I will use throughout.

I'm using fatsecret.com. Hate the name, but it was the only one that I could find which would show Fiber and I felt that was important to track. Also tracks calories, carbs & fat. I had been using myfitnesspal.com and really liked it, but wanted to be able to see the fiber.

@cielle, MFP shows fiber - not sure if that was a separate setting, but I have fiber in my individual items and the summary

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
