Sleeve PLication on 1/15

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

First let me say that I'm so glad to have this forum to here all our stories and get the encouragement I need to move forward with this surgery. I'm traveling to TJ to get my surgery with Dr. Lopez Corvala. I see this as the start of a journey to a heathly life. I'm like so many of you in that I've tried & tried to lose weight but always ended up heavier than before. I'm so tired of having all these aches & pains that I hope are due to the extra weight. I'm just a little nervous, not so much about the surgery itself but the trip home so soon after. I'm being released and then staying over night before my trip back to the east coast. Should I pack my Clear Liquids to have something to put in my new tummy. I can't even imagine not being hungery after the few tablespoons of food. I'd realy like to hear about the liguid phase of recovery.

Thanks all,

Claire

I stayed in 3 nights post op, as I was feeling pretty bad, but I felt LOADS better on day 4. Just a bottle of Water should be fine. I think it took about an hour to get back to San Diego, as the taxi driver will have an express pass. Jus sip, sip, sip. All the best and I look forward to hearing how you get on after!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
