klsulliv 0 Posted January 12, 2011 Hi, I'm 12 days post op for the sleeve. My doctor gave me the OK for full liquids on day 7, which in my diet includes Protein Shakes and SF pudding. I tried a Protein Shake on day 7 and about 15 minutes after drinking it my heart rate jumped up above 100 bpm and stayed there for about 20 minutes. The next day I tried a sugar free, fat free pudding and had the same thing happen. I went back to Clear Liquids for a couple of days and today (day 12) I tried the pudding again with the same result. Has anyone else experienced this?
SouthernSleever 228 Posted January 12, 2011 I get it when I eat too fast or have something way too sweet. it has mostly gone away!
Cinderella 2 Posted January 12, 2011 I knid of noticed that too, if I eat too much... or too fast. You gotta eat TEENY TINY mini-bites, and also really slow. Like wait 10 minutes between each bite at first. It passed after awhile, and my hearbeat when back to normal, but it's scary. Don't know what causes it... anyone?? seniorsleever 17 Posted January 12, 2011 I could hazard a guess, as an RN. The vagal nerve affects both the stomach and the heart. Yours may be overreacting to the "full" stomach and causing the high heart rate. It should settle down eventually as the tissues around it heal and any irritation to the nerve goes down. But this is a question you should ask your doctor, just to be safe.
klsulliv 0 Posted January 12, 2011 Thanks for replying so quickly. I talked to my surgeon and he said pretty much the same thing that you guys are saying. The vagal nerve is over stimulated and the situation should improve with time. I'm still learning that I can't eat as fast as I used to. I don't do too many things slowly so this is a bit of challenge for me, but I'm getting there.
