I am 24, no kids yet, and pre op. At this point I am saving as much $ as possible for the surgeries I may need post-op (i.e. Tummy Tuck, boob job, hopefully wouldn't need body-lift). I am going to stick with the 1 year post goal weight obtained before I would get surgery, but do I need to wait even longer....as in weight for any surgery until after kids. Would it be okay to have breast implants and go through a pregnancy? What about a tummy tuck? I have my fingers crossed that my youth, lotion, and exercise will help me through the worst. But just fyi, I am a pear shape but I with a C/D cup. What do fellow pear-shaped ladies out there think about their thighs/hips/butt post op?tongue.gif

I don't think there are issues with having your boobs done and pregnancy, I just think there can be a problem with breastfeeding. As far as your Tummy Tuck, I would wait until after you have kids. Pregnancy causes stretch marks and it would stretch out your stomach. I would see how you feel about your body when you hit your goal and then decide. The great thing is you won't gain 100 pounds during pregnacy like I did!

Implants would be fine, and most people don't have any issue with nursing after getting them.

I'd hold off on the Tummy Tuck though. Your skin is already stretched out and thinner then it would normally be. If they tighten that all up and then you get pregnant, it'll be stretched even thinner and you'll have stretch marks from hell and still have loose skin again (although probably not as much as after losing weight). You don't want to pay for that just to end up with it all again after having kids...better to wait and get great results and be the mom that all the other moms are jealous of.

Your whole body changes after pregnancy -- your rib cage widens, your hips widen, and like everyone else mentioned, the stretch marks, etc. My boobs drooped too! If you're going to get pregnant, I would wait until you're done with kids -- you don't know what will happen to you genetically (stretch marks are a genetic thing!) until you get pregnant --

And you're 24 years old -- I'm betting your skin has much more elasticity than my old 46 year old bod has -- a lot of people who have the VSG and then do a good amount of exercise and weights find after a year that their skin will "snap" back.

Just my opinion, FWIW :)

I'm a Certified Nurse-Midwife and here's the scoop: Hold off on a Tummy Tuck until you are done with pregnancies. You can have breast implants and breastfeed after (tell them to do it right for that concern) but breastfeeding can be less comfortable that way. I'd say get the sleeve, lose the weight, have the kids and then fix yourself up afterward!

I would also wait to see what effect pregnancy has on your body. We poor women go through SO much to give birth.

I am currently waiting to be approved for VSG. Like you, I too want to have kids. My thing is just like the others have said. I'm going to be successfuk in weight loss and go through my pregnanices and after I've had two then I'm going to get myself fixed up. So, if I were you I would wait until after you have kids like I would. Good Luck!!! Tootles!!!!!!

I've had a Tummy Tuck, and trust me, theres no way I could stretch out to fit a pregnancy in there now! I don't want kids tho, and knew that when I had my tuck done. It was done pre sleeve...... and my weightloss hasn't affected the surgery so I still have a flat stomach. I do have other 'wrinkled' skin elsewhere, tops of arms, and inner thighs but won't be doing anything about that..... no money left now!

That's a great question! I wondered that too and have enjoyed reading these answers!

I understand where everyone is coming from but my question is what if you haven't met that special someone and you have tons of extra skin and are not comfortable being intimate. I lost about 150 lbs before (unfortunately gained it back) and was so self conscious. I weight trained and worked hard to get rid of the flab to no avail. I'm not sure I could go through that again. I would like to have kids though. Although I'm 34 so time is ticking away. Any advice in that situation? Advice the same?

Sunny D- I completely understand where you are coming from! I havent' met that special someone yet, but am hoping to & to have kids one day, as well. I can't imagine ever being comfortable enough to get naked with someone with tons of sagging, loose skin... so how the heck could I have kids without the plastic surgery? It seems like you need to have the plastic surgery in order to be comfortable enough to make those babies. I know people say that if he really loves you things like being fat or having loose skin won't matter. The reality is that the issue is not with how a man sees you, it is with how you see yourself. I don't know that I could let myself be open to an intimate relationship if I felt like my stomach & boobs looks disgusting. I don't really have any good advise for you. I'm waiting to see what my body will look like when I hit my goal. I probably would have the plastic surgery even without having had kids and then if I have kids later, I'll deal with the restretched skin then. I don't think I will wait to feel good about my body in the hopes that someday I really will meet Mr. Right and have babies. There's no guarantee it will ever happen. Hmmm... now I'm depressing myself. :P

I completely agree! It's good hear someone else think like I do. It makes me think maybe my thoughts are not completely irrational. :)

" I know people say that if he really loves you things like being fat or having loose skin won't matter. The reality is that the issue is not with how a man sees you, it is with how you see yourself".

Exactly! When I'd lost the weight before. I was so uncomfortable with a man touching my body. I wasn't happy with myself and there was no way I could feel good with a man touching me while the whole time thinking about my sagging loose skin.

I too think I'll just wait and see what I look like at goal, but being this is the second time I'm losing a ton of weight I doubt it will be much different this time. I think I see plastic surgery in my future!

I asked this same question when a plastic surgeon spoke at a WLS support group. He said get the plastic surgery first!

I think you should research your question on a MD website and then do what is best for you. I recently did some researching and most of the plastic surgeons said they would prefer you wait until after you are done having children to have a Tummy Tuck because you may ruin the results of the tummy tuck and need a revision. If you are that unhappy with the way your body is looking I would suggest you do what is best for you and then worry about the rest later. I am definitely considering it, though I have children I am not sure if I am done, as I am not married and not even in a relationship. Bottom line is we have to do what is best for us as individuals.

This is crazy, I know but when I was around 26 I had already had two children and got very close to goal weight (not that I kept it off mind you) but I decided that I was going to get a Tummy Tuck and Lipo. I went to a great Surgeon and was thrilled with the results. Fast forward 10 years and guess what? We are having a third child. I was thinking that I would End up with the worst stretch marks. But I didn't get a single one and my tummy is still tight and hard. Weird I know. Would have never guessed that one. I did gain 70lbs after the third pregnancy and have fought my weight but my tummy is stll great. The only problem is that if you do gain weight after tt or lipo it will come back in a different part of your body. Too bad doctors don't tell people that. Anyways, having said that I have stretchy skin. Never have had a stretch mark. Some people gat them some people dont. Keep researching and looking into what's best for you. It sounds like your on the right track. Best wishes

So good to hear your story! I actually was researching on other sites and many women said the same thing. For one their stomach was smaller when pregnant after a tummy tuck than when they were pregnant before and two- many didn't get stretch marks like before. Very interesting!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
