I've been on birth control for 9 years now. Is it true that I will have to go off before surgery and then have to possibly switch to a different method after since I may not absorb it as much. I have no children and not sure if I want them and I know I have to wait even if i do.. thanks in advance for any replies

Hi I saw your post and thought I would answer you as well as I know. One thing is we do not have to take pills in liquidation. We can take pills. I am personally going to do the depo shot for the simplicity of it. The pills make me terribly sick plus I don't want to forget and deal with unplanned pregnancy so close to my surgery. Anyhow, I am a huge advocate for the shot. But I understand its not for all. Hope this answers some of your question. Have a great new year!

You will need to go off before to help prevent blood clots. My Doc had me stop 2 months pre op.

The liquid phase of meds is only in the beginning while you are healing. A little birth control pill will go down no prob 1 month post op.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
