My Dr. Say's NO MILK EVER......

Recommended Posts

They'll take my milk from me when they pry it from my cold, dead fingers. Even if I DID switch to fat free skim milk! Hrumph.

I agree with Jachut: I think it pays to remember doctors have their own biases, misinformation or beliefs on what constitutes a healthy diet - what consitutes perfect human nutrition is not something anybody has the answer to. I think its up to all of us to consider what our doctors tell us, but fit it in with our own personal needs and beliefs.

Hello everybody, I was just reading through and see that some of you mix the Protein Drinks with milk. I read an article where its explained that you should never mix Protein Powder with milk.Only Water. Its because of some enzymes in your stomach,if it is made with milk you probably get only half of the Protein, because the protein would be digested in your intestines instead starting the digestion in your stomach. The stomach enzym is pepsin and it is good to digest the Proteins.< /p>

I would post the article but its in Czech :-))

Eficka, interesting info! I usually use Water anyway just save calories, plus I cant tell that much difference in the taste, lol. I get my Calcium from fatfree cottage cheese and a daily Viactiv calcium chew or 2.

My fill nurse made me start taking lactobacillus even thought I've drunk milk my whole life. Also she advised taking food enzymes because I was having clay colored stools. Well, I don't have those anymore and I don't have much gas. I'm pretty old and apparently have developed lactose intolerance due to age. The pills are expensive, but I'm a lot easier for other people to be around these days.

To THIS semi-lactose intolerant old lady, 16 ounces of milk is my WEEK's supply of what goes in my coffee. (I don't use it in any other context right now.) So, "moderation" can be very subjective. (I would be SOOO sick on 16 ounces a DAY.)
You're right, it is very subjective. I'm so happy that I'm not lactose-intolerent.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
