Before I got my sleeve, it was nothing for me to drink 3 liters of Water a day. Since having my sleeve I think that I can count on one hand how many times I have had water, plain water. I will drink it with K2O or the SF FF peach tea mixes that they have but I just can not bring myself to drink plain water. Has anyone else experienced this?

It's the opposite for me. Pre-sleeve I would barely get in 8 ounces a day---but gallons of diet coke! Since surgery I'm drinking between 40-50 ounces a day. I'm only 10 days out, so hoping to stretch it to the 64 ounces soon.

Plain Water tastes hideous to me. I have to change my glass with cold fresh water quite often and I just force myself. I am going to try a zero calories drink mix to see if that helps, I usually don't (at least didn't) like flavored water and used to chug 5 or 6 liters a day of tap water on top of coffee and the occasional soda. Water just tastes plain nasty now.

Yep, me too. I used to drink a TON of Water every day - loved it. Now I can barely do plain water. I drink at least 3 of my bottled every day mixed with the Kelloggs K20 in the lemonade flavor. That way I am getting the 5 grams of Protein per packet every day too. Between the (3) K20 packets and a Kelloggs Protein Bar or two (they go down easy and aren't dense like other protein bars) I can get an extra 25 -35 grams of protein in every day plus it helps me get the extra calories I need to get to 1200 calories a day.

I'm the same way, I've been meaning to post the same question. I used to drink so much Water now I barely get 16 oz. I drink black tea and i hate sugar free stuff. Any ideas how to get more fluids in without it being sugarfree?

Thanks Janine

I think we've all have this issue. I used to drink about a gallon of Water a day before surgery and now plain water doesn't agree with me. I just went and bought some of the K20 and I'm gonna see how that goes. I asked my Dr why can't I drink water anymore and he said it is common but to try it at different temps. Like room temp, almost frozen, lightly chilled and so on.

I bought SoBe Water. It's awesome! No splenda or nutrasweet. I am 7 days post of and can not drink water. It hurts my stomach.

Just adding a slice of lemon makes it much easier for me to stomach.

@Gip, not sure about bottled Water but I think at least in my case the answer would be NO. Just the taste - or lack of taste - is what's killing me. I finally found a weak Crystal Light Grape (of all flavors!) is pretty easy to get down.

It's a complete mystery.

That's interesting -- before I was a diet coke fiend. Couldn't drink enough of it. Now I can't get enough of Water. I think that the ghrelin removed just changes how our tastebuds taste. I LOOOOVE water now. To me, it's amazing -- if you had said to me pre-op, "drink water instead of x." I would have looked at you like you were nutty. Now, give me WATER!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
