Leila 0 Posted June 17, 2006 I've read a couple of times about people using meat tenderizer when they get stuck to avoid PB's... can anyone tell me what exactly people are doing and how it works? What type, how much, how effective? any concerns about using it?
GeezerSue 7 Posted June 17, 2006 I think they use papaya enzymes. I never wanted to go in that direction, as I felt that my esophagus and stomach were ALSO meat...and I didn't want them tenderized. Just "my weird."
NewSho 20 Posted June 17, 2006 I've heard of people using it too, but I guess since I don't cook I never seem to have any thing handy. For me, simethicone tablets (the ingredient in Gas-X) is an anti-foaming agent that does better, and I can carry them in my purse. (I eat almost all dinners and most meals out...) Happy Band (And Life) Journeys To All...
paula 4 Posted June 17, 2006 My MIL had her stomach stapled a million years ago. She uses the meat tenderizer (Adolphs brand only) when she feels something is "stuck". She said that it works on everything - not just meat.< /p> Ive never had the gumption (balls!) to try it.
medussa 0 Posted June 17, 2006 I am curious about this as well. meat tenderizer is powder. Do you just mix it with Water and drink? Can you get it down if you feel like you are going to PB? Comon...expert advice needed
paula 4 Posted June 17, 2006 Do you just mix it with Water and drink? Can you get it down if you feel like you are going to PB? Comon...expert advice needed My MIL mixes about a Tea. with something like a 1/3 cup of Water (Im giving approx's here) - and sips it. She said that it doesnt take long for the food to 'unclog'. But remember, she had her stomach stapled - WE have a band. Im not sure who has tried this with the lapband (or if it even works).
Carlene 12 Posted June 18, 2006 My doctor says absolutely DO NOT eat/drink meat tenderizer. He advises room temp pineapple juice.< /p>
mslynn 0 Posted June 18, 2006 Check the ingredients of meat tenderizer. It is papaya enzyme. So...you can use meat tenderizer or papaya enzymes. They're essentially the same thing! Mslynn
Jachut 487 Posted June 18, 2006 And I'd imagine room temp pineapple juice would have a similar effect. I've heard flat Coke. Who knows, I've never PB'd but when you really get stuck it would be handy to be able to clear it.
