Ok, i had the sleeve 8 days ago! I am doing ok on liquids, I found 2 creamier Soups that have filled me up but today I actually ate like half a cup of creamy Soup. To me that seems like too much! And hours later at dinner time I am hungry! Is hunger normal? Am I overeating? Im just SO scared the surgery isnt going to work and Ill always be hungry!

Just focus on eating/drinking really slowly and thinking about everything you put in your mouth at the moment. I found it very confusing the first few weeks, feeling hungry, you'll get used to it in due time and hopefully not feel as hungry as you feel now. Just follow your surgeons guidelines and good luck!

I am 9 days post op and I was asking the questions yesterday. I can eat/drink 4 oz now. I thought it was a lot since 2 days ago I could only get in 2 oz. I know everyone is different so I am going to just keep going a long. I have not had any problems besides catching a cold and cough on my third post op day. I still have coughing fits but at least it doesn't feel like my gut is going to pop open. LOL oh and knock on wood

Do you know how much you can eat? I am just stopping at 4 oz. I was questioning yesterday if he took my stomach out. LOL

I think there is little restriction on liquids. It'll all change once you eat solid food items first, but after 9 weeks, I can indeed eat for example 4oz of deli chicken breast. But that's not a lot, it's 120 calories and compared to my preop eating habits it's what I would have had stuck between my teeth after a meal, lol

I was hungry then too. I was so worried because a lot of people on here said "I'm not even hungry since being sleeved". I thought "Did he really remove 85% of my stomach"?...ha. Now, on the mushy stage, I'm much more satisfied. Sometimes, I feel like I eat 3 bites and I am full and other times, I finish my serving. Protein shakes keep me full. Try a Gladiator from smoothie King (when you can).

I just increased my liquids. I always have a drink (light cranberry juice) on hand and I sip, sip, sip...all day. Plus, I chew a lot of gum. Hang in there! Good luck :)

I'm glad I'm not the only one! I'm 6 days out and feel like I'm starving! I'm sticking to my 1/4 cup serving of Soup per meal, but I feel like I'm always hungry! It's good to know I'm not alone. It makes sense though as to the restriction and that we'll feel more restriction on mushies and soft foods. Like you, I was starting to wonder if he actually removed some of my stomach or just played around for an hour and made some incisions on my stomach for fun. Can't wait for mushies!

Chilo is right, just concentrate on getting your fluids in. . . I personally have never lost the hunger feelings. . . since surgery i've always been hungry, but look at my ticker. . . you have to learn to control it. . .you have to be in control and not your hunger. . .remember this is only a tool, you are having to learn to use this tool in order for it to work for you. . . it's like a hammer, your given a hammer to drive a nail, the hammer wont drive the nail by itself, but you have to learn the right way to use the hammer in order for it to work or you're going to have a very sore thumb! good luck! :)

I felt the same exact way! Now my doctor allowed me to move to mushies and I am getting full pretty quick. I believe once you start eating the Protein like chicken, that is when you really feel the restriction. Hang in there. Your sleeve is there! Just be patient!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
