Coffee -- Need some advice

Recommended Posts

Hey guys! Hoping that ya'll can give me some insight on coffee. I am 3 weeks post op today. I miss my coffee so much. I realize I will not ever be able to enjoy a large cup of coffee because it will take so long to drink it. When did you start coffee and what about Creamer? And also, dare I ask, what about Starbucks?????

Thanks guys!

I am now 3 weeks and 2 days out (december15). I tried my first Starbucks 11 days out. It was a tall skinny vanilla latte with soy milk and an extra pump of sf Syrup. After my 2 week post op check up, I moved to the same latte with regular skim milk. I have not finished a coffee, but it goes down well and sure does hit the spot.

I drank coffee two days after surgery, at the clinic! Then it was only a couple off sips, but now im up to one cup a day, but sometimes i splt it in two, so i can drink it hot!

I have had no trouble, and my nut says a cup a day doesnt hurt.

But then again, listen to what your clinic says...

Coffee(for my program) is discouraged only because of it's diuretic effect. Once I was around 6 weeks out, I could have coffee because I was able to get in my 64+ ounces of clear fluids and hydration was not so challenging. I don't drink Starbucks because we have a little locally-owned coffee house here that I frequent because I like to support our small businesses.

And, just to let you know, the whole sipping, and taking tiny drinks is not forever. I drink like a normal person now without issue, and have been for about a year.

I also drink about 20-30 ounces of coffee on any given with full fat creamer. I do not(have never) used fat free or sugar free Creamers. I do keep my coffee in an insulated coffee mug, but that's because I drink so much at one time, and if I use a regular cup, I'm hitting the microwave when it cools off.

i totally love the "I realize I will not ever be able to enjoy a large cup of coffee" part. . .OF COURSE YOU WILL. . . only size small will seem Large! I started drinking coffee (decaf at about 4 weeks out with creamer and enjoyed Starbucks at 3 months out and totally drinking whatever coffee i wanted after that. . . doctor didn't say either way if it was bad or good. His concern was weight loss. . . at one year out I'm livin life to the fullest, still loosing, slowly, but loosing! and lovin my cup of java EVERY DAY

I started drinking coffee about 3 months post-op. I drink probably 4-5 cups of coffee a day at work, and 1-2 when I'm at home. I use creamer, but I have switched to the sugar free kind to keep my carbs down.

coffee is discouraged on my program, as well, because it is so highly acidic. My NUT told me that if I must drink coffee, drink Decaf (less acid), and cut it with half milk.

It also doesn't taste the same to me... tastes bitter and nasty. I started getting Lattes but don't usually even finish them. Just a couple of sips will do ya.

I'm drinking about 3 - 4 cups of coffee a day -- now, I was only drinking tea for the first month or so because I had problems with acid. But now that that seems to have gone by the way side, I'm enjoying my cup o' joe every day :)

I get an entire cup of milk and heat it up. I add a little bit of de-caf and splenda. That way, I get Protein from the milk. I am allowed coffee, just only de-caf. I just keep it in one of the coffee mugs that keeps it hot and it does take quite awhile for me to finish it.

Love my Keurig!!! :D And you may not have to always "sip, sip, sip"... I'm 4 weeks post op and as long as I'm 45 minutes past a meal, I can drink like I use to. True that!! I know not everyone is like that, but there is hope!!

I have one medium sized cup of Tim Horton's coffee every morning and I drink it as fast as I ever did. No difference at all! Oh and I'm 8 weeks out.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
