Mama bear 0 Posted June 17, 2006 Im new here. I am 35 and I have 4 children( all boys) I am only 4'10" and just about as round as I am tall...LOL...I am tentitively ( is that how you spell it?)booked in for lapband surgery on Sept 29/06. I just signed all the papers and now Im slightly scared that I made the wrong choice...deep down I know the only way I will ever get away from food is if I am forced. This LB sounds very extreme to me. I have an aquaintance who had it done last year and she is down to a size 5 and loving every minute of it. Of course she doesnt have any kids and that is the part that is really bothering me...what if something goes wrong? reading about some of the things that have gone wrong with other peoples LBs is a little nervewracking. Anyway, any info would be great. Thanks
pplqueen 0 Posted June 17, 2006 The death rate is low....... less than 1%. You have a higher chance of a an automobile tragedy. AS far as your children, it would be a bigger tragedy to die from heart disease at a young age and leave them. Atleast they will know that you are taking the bull by the horns and trying to better yourself. That beats a heart attach and death at 40 from FAt. Right? You will be fine. This is not vanity..... This is to SAVE YOUR LIFE! Good luck. Don't focus on the negative. Most problems are in the 1%, I promise.
NJChick 3 Posted June 17, 2006 I have a 4 year old and was scared to death something would happen. Your feelings are so very real and I can't blame you. I had to really believe and pray that nothing would happen and that the rates of death is extremely low...its a pretty safe operation. Things will be okay....just believe. paula 4 Posted June 17, 2006 Momabear, WELCOME to LapBandTalk! I had MY surgery when my kids were 8, 3 and 1 years old. The fear of not being an active parent or possibly dying at a young age due to obesity related problems was a bigger fear for me then having the LapBand surgery. I have never never never regretted having WLS. NEVER! Just wish I wouldve done something sooner. Good luck!
juliegeraci 7 Posted June 17, 2006 Welcome. I have 2 children, 14 and 5. The surgery isn't too difficult so you are up moving around pretty quickly. I had my youngest watched for a few days by my mother so that made things easier. Don't be afraid of your "drastic" decision. I was scared and had a major meltdown 2 days before, that is natural. Take care of yourself. We have all been there. Good luck.
johnna 0 Posted June 18, 2006 i have two children, one ten and one six. i was nervous about the surgery even knowing the rate of death was very low. however, it was a time for me to think about death and as a result have gotten my spiritual prioritites straight which has helped me out in life in general. good luck.
