SMMC LB support group chicas

The flipside of the kicker is that full "retail" according to what ins was charged would have been over $36k, and I'm guessing most self-pays don't get anywhere near there.

The way the insurance discounts work, as explained to me (by a medical underwriter) is essentially "volume discount".

Hi gals!

I'm back...the reunion was fun, but I'm tired from all the running.

Glad to hear your dog is doing better Angela!!

I'm all for meeting up and going to a different support group...or having our own. I'd just like to go somewhere and feel welcome.

What's the plan for the 6th? Do we have a time in mind??

Hi Guys-

As far as the 6th goes....let's try to solidify things a bit (there's my type A personality showing its ugly head:help: ) Let's shoot for melting pot at 6:00. I'll call tomorrow to try to make reservations....I have been putting it off, but I'm not too worried about a Sunday night being booked up.

Angela, if you wanted to do the pottery thing before sometime that afternoon, I would be up for that too....but I'll leave that up to you:kiss2: .

Need a head count for the reservations....I know Cynthia said she couldn't make it.....Holli is a yes, Jenn is a yes, and Angela. That's 4 so far...anyone else in?? The more the merrier!

Speaking of....where is Holli, isn't she back by now?? I'm missing her;)

Melting Pot sounds like fun, I've never been there. I was assuming it was more of a personal thing between the 4? of you as the whole discussion started before I joined the board. Would have loved to come. Only that's the same day DH is turning 40!

Me & my strange foods. I'd also like to invite all of you to try Ethiopian with me sometime. If you haven't already had it before. It one of my favorite foods. There is a great restaurant down on the city market. And it's very high Protein low carb. It is a great place to go with a group. Every one orders seperately but when the food arrives it is all on one giant round platter they place in the middle of the table. They then give you this "bread/flan" they call Indira made from some grain called Teff that has NO Carbs. The idea is that you eat the food by tearing off chunks of the Indiri, placing it over the food then using it to pick up a "pinch" of spiced meats, Beans or veggies. They will also provide forks for those who can't stomach the Indiri wether or not it has carbs it's still a bit "doughy".

Let me know sometime after the Melting Pot maybe we can set a date to meet at the City Market some Saturday Morning.

By the By - Even though we've never really talked in depth before. I've always looked forward to seeing all of you at group. Throughout my journey there have been a handful of individuals I see & hear speak at group that really have helped me without even knowing I noticed them. And I believe it is safe to say I count everyone of you on this board among that select group. This is not some silly pep talk. I truly admire each of you for your struggles and acomplishments and been inspired by each of you.

So keep your heads high no matter where you are as for every person you see blocking the path ahead of you, there are 10 standing just out of sight behind you looking to you as a guide along their path.

The Melting Pot on the 6th would be fine with me. Count me in! What is the address? Time again?

I'm type A too. I'd imagine most of us are.

One if these days I'll do MBTI with you guys. Or one of the other 30-something personality inventory models I use. Look at learning styles, or people styles, or personality structure... (yes I'm a :nerd:, but I can't help but love this stuff).

We can do the pottery thing or skip it. I'm going to do it at some point in time, so if you're interested let's go, but if you could take it or leave it, let's leave it.

HI guys! I talked to Roby last night and told her my appeal was denied again so I am going ahead and having surgery for fix or take out my band Aug 23rd. My Dad said he was going to give me the money and it was part of the money I would have gotten when he died but he wanted to give it to me now cause he'd know what I used it on and thought this was important. The lady from HR called me today and said that if he takes it out they will reimburse me for removal but to revise, fix or replace they will not.

Robyn Thanks for listening to me last night for some reason I just wanted to talk to one of us. I hope you got some rest. After we got off the phone I starting to play with my dog a little since Wes wasn't home and my pager went off and I had to go back to work for a few hours. Then I couldn't get to sleep when I got home. It was hard to get up and come to work today. Hopefully we won't get called back tonight since I am on call again.

Hope you guys have fun on Sunday but I think I need to spend some special time with Wes since Friday is his birthday. He spends a lot of weekends at my family's so I want him to have fun.

Angela I hope your dog is continuing to get better. You and Diane are kind of cracking me up with the IL///OL stories.

Diane-I think that was one of the nicest things I have ever heard anyone say :) I used to think I was going to support group for that very reason....now it just seems that I/we have become an incredible irritation to certain someones. I used to really get a lot out of support groups and be remotivated when I left. Now, I am finding it too just be a big bummer when I leave there.

Just sad...because I know Billie will probably be the only one who is saddened if we are not there anymore....and she wasn't even responsible for what happened last week.

Hi Pat-

It will be at 6 on the Plaza...just go to meltingpot.com and click on locations and the state of Missouri. It will give you the exact address. It's not too hard to find. I'm glad you can go!

Angela...check into the pottery thing....those who want to can go play before dinner if they are open that day:p

Hi all!

I have heard about some of the goings on that I missed. Sorry that things worked out the way they did at sg. :cry I would be up for trying another group with you guys. I am not sure we should totally give up on this group though. Let's talk more about it on Sunday.

So, was there any words of wisdom that Sabapathy said during the meeting that connected with anyone?

Count me in the Nerd category - I love the idea as well.

Cynthia - I'm glad you finally have a surgery date. I'll be praying all goes well and it doesn't need to be removed. I'm glad you were able to get the funds but it's too bad about the insurance company though. I still feel the doc could have stepped up and covered some/all of it, no matter what the ultimate problem/cause is considering how you have been complaining about this for months before your insurance company dropped coverage of this. And especially if you had warned him that this needed to be resolved before the insurance company was dropping coverage.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
