Cynthia, you're doing great. Just remember that things really do happen one day at a time. Just one day, and before you know it, it's a month later and you've done fantastic the entire time.

Ok, here are some food ideas to help you out... (warning, don't read unless you're still doing Atkins!)

One of my Atkins "secret weapons" was jicama. I ate it when I craved something sweet. It's hard to describe. Maybe like a cross between a potato and an apple. If I was craving potatoes, I would grate it up and cook it in a frying pan with some butter, season it just like hashbrowns. It doesn't TASTE just like hashbrowns, but when you're deserpate, you're desperate! I would also slice it into sticks and stew it in some butter, sugar free hot cider mix, cinnamon, and applie pie seasoning and make faux "fried apples". I liked it well enough to just chop up and eat raw, too.

I also discovered that I REALLY liked turnips! I'd never had them before, so if you haven't tried them, give them a try! I sliecd them and deep fried them, called them "fauxtato fries", and dipped them in ranch dressing. Mmmm.

And as counter-intuitive as it seems, remember than when you're following Atkins, especially induction, the more fat you eat the more weight you will lose. So if you really want to go for it, then add that little bit of fat every chance you get. Use real mayo if you're making tuna, and buy the tuna packed in oil instead of Water. Cook things in butter. Use Salad Dressing whenever you have something you can dip. I swear, every time I stalled I'd just go to the casino buffet and eat crab legs in melted butter, and I'd wake up to a 4 lb loss.

Let me know, because I may want to leave just a little earlier that day to meet up with ya'll.
I can meet up pre meeting, no problem, I just need to know in advance. I can leave work any time, but I work north of the river, so depending on time of day it can take me a LONG time to get down by the hospital!

Angela thanks for the food ideas I will try them out. It kind of makes me hungry thinking about them. At least mentally. Does anyone know how we can contact Cate to see how she is?

Holli - I'll get in touch with you. Thursday would probably be better for us anyway, so since it works best for you maybe we'll just plan on doing it then. I just need to double-check against my school schedule (two more projects and the semester is o-v-e-r!)

KS Bandster - This is Diane (The short red-head) from group. I love the idea of meeting before hand. I go to another support group (The KC Bandsters) and several of us usually get together afterwards which is a lot of fun. Frequently we stay where ever we go until they kick us out.

Another reply to a comment earlier today about discounted restaurant certificates. There is a site called KansasCityMenus.com it has Gift Certs at approx 40% off to many good restaurants only the list is only updated once every 3 months and the Certs go FAST. The new list came out this month and I just nabbed the last Majestic Steak House tonight.

I've not heard from Cate but she's reading the thread now so I know she's around.

Nice to see you Diane, I got your frozen Protein recipe just the other day. I can't wait to try it!

Well ladies I left my keyboard in KC, so I can only use roomie's for now. It's being sent though, so it should be here soon. NOLA is great, love it, job hunt tomorrow, lots of craziness. I will check in when I'm keyboarded.

PS can't change ticker, but wt is at 262 this am.

Hi guys! I sure was glad to here from Cate and know that she is doing ok. I guess that's the Mom in me. My son isn't here tonight so I have all night to be on the computer and play. I emailed Billie today and told her I still keep getting that lump in my throat and like something is stuck in my esphogus and now I'm getting paranoid about everything. She said she thought I should just get some over the counter Prevacid and see if that helps. She thinks I'm just healing from the irritation that the band was probably causing. Did I tell you I told her the other day I needed to find out how much I'd have to pay if we can't get the insurance to cover and she gave me a figure that I could deal with. I don't know if that is something I should post so I can talk to you all privately about that.

I could probably go out after support next week but before might be hard. I don't get off til 5pm and work and NKCH. But that doesn't mean you guys can't go. Maybe I can leave early if cases are done so I'll keep watching here to see where you are going and I'll show up if I can.

If we meet before, how early do you all think we'd need to meet? If we do go to Panera, it's right across the street from the hospital. Do you think if we met by 5pm, that would give those who might want to grab a quick bite of dinner enough time to eat? :hungry:

I can leave work a bit before 5...I could be there as early as 4:30 or 4:45 if anyone else would be there that early.

I like the idea of going out afterwards, but I just can't do it this month. I'll have to see about next month, because hubby's bday is the 28th. :biggrin1:

Holli-

Yes, it's a new ticker. I finally got to move it down a pound and decided it was time for a little change. :)

Cate-

Glad to see you made it ok. Good luck on the job hunt!! :gluck:

Diane-

Good to see you! I do remember you from group!! Aren't you the one who said you mix your Protein powder into pudding or am I totally mixing up my faces and helpful hints? :nervous

I haven't made it to the the last couple meetings, but am looking forward to hearing what Dr. Sabapathy has to say this time.

Jennifer - yup I'm the pudding gal.

Lately I've gon Cottage cheese CRAZY. I don't really like Cottage cheese but am blending it smooth in the blender and mixing it in almost anything I can think of. It works a decent creamy substitution for Milk, Cream Cheese & Sour Cream. You can mix it in cream Soups, yogurt, mashed potatos, and use it to make pepperoni crisp dips, cream sauces & of course my semi-frozen puddings.

The nutritional data on 1/2 cup 1% Cottage Cheese is 14 Protein to 3 carb and 81 calories.

Aprox 4.5 to 1 Ratio for Protein to Carbs

I'm actually starting to think its an even better alternative to whey Protein powders. The powder I have right now is 21 protein to 4 carb but 120 calories.

Approx 5 to 1 Ration but more calories.

Meeting Before/After Group

Hope no one minds my jumping in and asking if I can come along too. I could do before or after. Before hand and I can make it by 5pm. Just let me know if you all don't mind me coming and where you decide on. I just wish Panera served their morning egg dish all day. I've heard it is YUMMY!

OK sorry to waste space here but I'm trying to figure this whole ticker thing out. I made one on tickerfactory.com but am not sure how to get it attached to my post. If this doesn't work anyone out there that could explain it to me would be appreciated.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
