If we are going to talk about getting things done at home. A friend of mine at has a Dad that does all kinds of repairs and after waiting for about 2 months he finally made it over to my house tonight and I think finally I might be getting my kitchen floor fixed and some electrical outlets and wiring done. I am so excited. I feel like I'm getting really old that the new washer and dryer I got last week and home repairs are the things I get excited about anymore. At least it gives me something besides my band or lack there of to think about.

Cynthia - I told my parents a few years ago that I knew I was getting older because I used to get jealous because my girlfriend had a cuter boyfriend, and now I get jealous because our neighbor has greener grass. ;)

I'm glad you got your floor fixed! My parents are visiting this weekend and my dad has promised he will fix a broken wall - that's been that way for 4 years now. 2 years ago he got as far as cutting out the broken and putting in new drywall, and one ayer of mud, but that's it! I keep telling him I'm just going to hire a drywaller, and he says, "Don't you dare..." So I wait...

Sorry I didn't call you back until later tonight Holli-I had a jewelry party to go to. I just tried calling you and the phone just rang and rang. I'll try you tomorrow, as I have to go get my pre-op blood drawn at 0800.

I've had a crappy night.....felt good after working out, then while I was at this party I had this weird nausea sweep over me. At first I thought if I would just PB it would be better...but it was different than that. I finally ended up leaving and puked in my in-laws drive way.....not PB, violent wretching.....that's what scares me. NOT PB's, but the violent type of puking.....I'm assuming it has to be this whole gallbladder thing since I hadn't eaten anything before that. Did I mention I can't wait to get this stupid thing out.

I'm glad you guys are up for the social suppers. I think it sounds soooo fun. Holli...let's get our surgeries over with this Friday...then maybe arrange a chat after 4th of July to figure it out. I'm thinking maybe not next week, but the week after??

Angela, I feel like sh..t right now... but the mention of crab stuffed orange roughy still makes me hungry, nausea and all:sick !!!!

Hi Chantay-

Glad to meet you! Sorry about your insurance struggles. One of the VERY best things for you to do is to go to the support group meetings. All of us on here go and we would love to meet you. At the support group meetings there are people there like you who are just getting started all the way through those who are a year or more out. It is a very open setting to ask questions of your peers and freely ask what to expect.

I am one of the few that have had many problems with my band. You name it, it has probably gone wrong. But, that is NOT the norm. I am very open about everything that has happened and am more than willing to share my experiences. However, I want you to hear that even though it has been a struggle and I get very down at times...I have lost 140 pounds, and I would never think twice about having the surgery all over again. It has been truly life changing. Dr Hoehn is a wonderful surgeon...I truly believe he is the best in KC. I live in the L.S. area so we are pretty close. Keep posting on here and let us know anytime you have questions. Also, keep us updated on your progress.

Let's do a recap of all the things I should have responded to:

1) Lox - I bought it @ the Hy-Vee on 76/State Line. Some stores have it, some don't. They didn't have it at price chopper. I used to eat it on Bagels yum.. But now I don't eat bagels ;)

You could have it in a wrap with lettuce, cream cheese, maybe another veggie? I eat it in a salad with spinach, Tomato, egg, and chevre.

2) Social suppers... I think the only way I could swing this is if we all cooked the same things and just split up the portions... which would be complicated.

Thats all I know for now...

Hi Chantay, and welcome to our thread. Please share your concerns and scares. If we didn't go through them ourselves, chances are that we know someone who did and - while we can't take them away - perhaps we can give you some information to rationalize through them, or offer a different perspective.

I had surgery w/ Dr. Hoehn March 1 and the only thing I would change is that I wish I'd done it sooner!

So girls, I wake up this morning and maybe a pretty usual breakfast:

1/4 c. egg beaters

2 strips turkey bacon

1 cracker cut of cheese

I'm pretty sure my "soft stop" is taking a deep breath. A few times I've eaten past it (oh, but if i weren't a compulsive eater, how much easier life would be...), but this time I stopped. And I had only eaten half my Breakfast. This is new.

How are yall this morning?

That's awesome Cate....isn't restriction the funniest thing.....Leading up to it, you ask yourself constantly, "do I need a fill or do I not need a fill"....or "Well I'm not eating as much as I used to, so maybe I don't need a fill"....but until you actually experience true restriction, it's my opinion that you just aren't where you COULD be. It's just one of those things you just can't explain to others....you have to experience it and actually feel that you are there. I'm so happy for you and Angela!!!:clap2: :clap2: YAY!!!! I'm still not restricted like I need to be...I of course have to wait until after surgery for yet another fill (I've lost count...I think this will be #10).

I was nauseated again this am...so while I was out and about I decided maybe if I would stop and get something to eat before I Jazzercised that might help...and it did to an extent. I had the innerds of a ham, egg, and cheese croissant at Hardees (no bread). I ate about 3/4 of it, but probably could have eaten more.

I just found out from my pre-op appt this morning at Heartland that I am supposed to do Clear Liquids all day Thursday, as well as take 3 Ducolax:embarassed: to clear my system out before the surgery...I am a little irritated because no one from the office let me know this (and now they are all gone at that conference). I'm just glad the nurse there at the hospital happened to mention..."Did your doctors office give you the special instructions on how to prep for the surgery?" I would have been soooooo irritated had I gotten there Friday and it had gotten cancelled or something because I seemingly fell through the cracks and didn't receive any "special directions". (HEAVY SIGH)......

yeah I'm glad you got the directions!

It is funny - I oculd only eat 1/2 my breakfast, but now I'm hungry again 2 hours later! Grr... I'm just going to drink a lot of Water and see if I can hold off until noon or so. Plus I like to drink at least 32 oz. before lunch.< /p>

I am leaving for NOLA on July 14. I'm so excited! And nervous/scared. Lots of emotions.

BTW, who else has PCOS? Just curious.

I am a PCOS gal....much better now though.

Cate-how free are you on the weeknights during the week before you leave?

Holli/Angela-what do you think about maybe getting together on Saturday the 15th I think it is at the Quivira S/S location? Plm is, I'm not too keen on their July menu (mostly chicken which I can't do very well.....but some other stuff on there looks good). Let me know what ya think.....

Most weeknights I am pretty good. The days I know I am not free are 6/29, 7/1, 7/2, and 7/13. Haha. That's not too much! I would say Monday the 10th is probably the latest I can plan to do something. So anytime between now and then is probably good. What about you gals?

I've noticed, PCOS-wise, my skin has improved a LOT since banding/eating better. that's the most noticeable thing so far.

Alright Hoehn-ators what's for lunch?

i am havin some salmon salad. About 1/3 can of canned salmon (not that bad) with a special sauce my parents made (mainly basil, garlic, oil, brown sugar splenda) as the lubricant (instead of ff mayo). YUM.

And maybe a piece of cheese, we'll see how it goes.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
