Young And Banded

Recommended Posts

Greetings from Croatia, a small country in Southeast Europe! :biggrin1:

I am 21 years old and got banded at the end of June. Lost 12 kilos in less than 3 weeks. :biggrin1:

Did not make a single mistake. Mommy is proud of me. :biggrin1:

Croatica,

I see that we started almost at the same weight!thats great,I was 125 when I started all my checks at doctors, but I lost 9kgs preior to surgery and then other 9kgs after surgery.Im three months out of the surgery.Hey if you ever come to Prague let me know you can stay at my place no problem and we can go party:-))

Eva

Awwww, thats great! Congrats. :biggrin1: I lost 12 kilos in 3 weeks, but thats just because I am exercise freak. :biggrin1: And live on 400 calories a day :biggrin1:

I have a house at the seaside, so if you wanna come over, please do. We can get stoned(since no alchochol is allowed) :biggrin1:

Holy Mozes! Stoned?

Ok ok I'm not judging, just surprised.

Croatica, honey first of all, put the drugs away and second, what?!?! 400kcal a day? Are you insane? Thats VERY unhealthy. If you want to consume less than normal amounts, bring it down a couple hundred, so say eat 1000 kcal, but 400? That will put you in starvation mode, and if you start eating you will GAIN weight. Stop it before you end up in the hospital with severe anemia. Your 100kg body needs a lot more than 400 kcal a day hun, and even thin girls need more than that. You are harming yourself more than anything.

Now I know why they need psychiatric evaluation to get the band, some people use it as an eating disorder tool.

Hey, obviously nobody is perfect and I'm not saying you have a disorder, but after reading your post I think that is a possibility and if you really are only consuming 400 kcal a day, I think you need to think about how you can do this in a healthier way.

12kg in 3 weeks is bad for you and if you're excercising and (hopefully) building muscle mass, I am seriously hoping you will consider eating more. Your body needs Proteins and Vitamins to keep you healthy.

LoL, just kidding. :biggrin1:

That will put you in starvation mode, and if you start eating you will GAIN weight.

My body is in the state of starvation. I am aware of that. But the only thing I am reducing is calorie intake. Nothing else. I take my Vitamins and minerals regularly and drink 3 liters of Water a day.

Stop it before you end up in the hospital with severe anemia.

I had a blood test two days ago and I am perfectly healthy. Of course, I am 21 and I was perfectly healthy prior to the operation, normal blood sugar and blood pressure.

Your 100kg body needs a lot more than 400 kcal a day hun, and even thin girls need more than that. You are harming yourself more than anything.

Actually, my body has a fat storage that could last through an entire nuclear war. Malnutrition happens if there is a deficiency of Vitamins or minerals. Like I said before, I have plenty of those since I take supplements and CHOOSE foods RICH in vitamins and minerals but POOR in calorie content. There is no point in me eating ice cream, fatty milk or sweetened juices, since these are not nutritive, but have high calorie content. That stuff is a definite no-no for me and I have given it up completely.

I eat low fat yogurt, low fat milk and vegetable/meat Soups instead and freshly squeezed juice out of fruits.

Fat in your body is there, standing and waiting to be used. :biggrin1:

Now I know why they need psychiatric evaluation to get the band, some people use it as an eating disorder tool.

Well, dont you think its worse when people who have pledged to themselves that they will lose weight eat/drink high calorie stuff after the operation? There is no way I am going through with that operation again. No way I am eating anything with high calorie content. I have been through a lot and I am not screwing this up. :biggrin1:

Hey, obviously nobody is perfect and I'm not saying you have a disorder, but after reading your post I think that is a possibility and if you really are only consuming 400 kcal a day, I think you need to think about how you can do this in a healthier way.

My point is - people should shift to foods that have high nutrient content, like fruit, vegetables and light dairy products and forget about stuff they ate before the operation. I consider myself now alergic to those foods and I can watch others eat kilos of ice cream without even thinking of trying it. Why? Because there is really no point in me eating this, if I can physically consume such a small amount of food. So I make the 400-500 calories worth it. Then again, one must be perfectly healthy in order to do this.

I dont feel dizzy, I have a great digestion and I feel like I can jump over an entire building!

I also think people should not hide this from others. I told the entire world ''Hey, I am a fat whale and I just got banded and soon I shall be a whale no more!'' and a huge deal of people support me, ask me about my weightloss and how I am doing. This makes the cost of failure bigger; I would have to tell the entire lot of my friends that I cannot stick to my diet!

Yeee-ha. :biggrin1:

What are you doing to get Protein?

I drink milk, and a special milk product called kefir. What it exactly is, you can see here ----> http://www.kefir.net/

Also, I eat Soup which is made out of meat and vegetables, but I do not eat the meat out of it. Some Protein from the meat also end up in the Soup and I also put organically grown soya sauce in it to make up for the Proteins. Its not 65g of protein a day, but vegetarians live with much less and feel fine. :biggrin1:

Am I the only one who thinks 400 kcal, no matter how nutricious, is still not enough?

Like I said honey, its an individual thing. Not everybody is the same. I can do very well ith only 400-500 cals a day, whilse somebody else faints from it. It really depends on your metabolism, your previous eating habits and your initial weight. :):biggrin1:

This is awsome to see this post doing so well.

I thought I would just say that my dad and my sisters dont know about my band and I have no desire to tell them. One day I know my sister will find out because of 8 degrees of seperation and I own an AWSOME online group for people from Victoria Australia too, and it is only a matter of time before someone tells her about my group. I have about 5 friends and my mum who knows about my band and I do hide it because the band is not the easy way out, and my band doesnt make me wake up at 6am every morning and hall my fat but to the gym. . And I even know that a friend of mine who knows I had the band said to my other friend "Well it is easy for Colleen she has the band"

I really dont know how my dad would react to knowing and I dont wanna test it out, but I know it is not worth the effort (it could have a lot to do with the fact that my parents are acholoics and are very irrational in their responses to things)

It is not worth the conversations to me to tell people.

I hope you make the right choice and keep in touch

I had to update my stats at the bottom and I also failed to mention.

In regards to my mum, I told her I took out health insurance and her first response was "great now you can get your stomic stapled" dont know if it was an insult or supportive. But I did do it to shut her up, but now the benifits are all for me :) I love being banded, I have so much self control and save a fortune on food!!! WOOHOO!! So I can travel more

I have loved reading your posts.

As for excersise, I do go to the gym, I wont spot train too much now such as abbs (but I am obsessive about my arms) my main goal is to get the weight off then spend a year getting great tone cause I dont want any reconstructive surgury. I also use bio-oil to fade my scar and when in the shower I use vit E cream to wash myself with to make sure my skin is nice and smooth and has enough elacticity that it tightens itself up.

Good luck

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
