So Im a little less than a week out, STILL on Clear Liquids till the post op appt next Thursday. :( Im trying to make life as normal as possible and cook regular meals for my family, and IT IS SO HARD to just not eat with them! I made beef stew last night, and it smelled so amazing, and I kept thinking how lucky they are to be chewing!! LOL And to top it off today my husband was craving a cheeseburger and I insisted on going with him because I cant hide every time someone around me wants to eat. So of course we go to the greasiest spoon in Pasadena (Lucky Boys for you locals) and I sat there with my cup of broth and just inhaled (and I brought some knitting along to distract me) I know that there was no chance I would be eating any but it makes me just WISH I could. I know this will pass and I will be able to eat again, but I am obsessing with food now and Im hoping once Im able to eat I will be able to control myself! I know Im going through stages and Ill relax once I can try something normal but uggg what do I do until then???? Just wanted to vent!! :o

I was in your shoes just a few short weeks ago and the only advise I have to offer is hang in there!! It is well worth the wait to let your body heal and soon enough you will be chewing again. :-)

That probably was not much help But It gets easier...I promise. :-)

Oh and about being able to control yourself...just think... Pre sleeve you would have probably dumped the liquid diet and gone to binge... Now you have a tool that restricts your ability to gorge yourself yet allowes you to be satisfied with the small amount.

Good luck on your journey over the next few weeks!

Oh and Congratulations on getting things started off right for 2011!!

Thank you, it is really nice to know that Im definitely not alone in this! It seems like such a personal struggle but I know so so many people on this board have been through this or will be going through it. You are right about the liquid diet, never ever have I been able to do this for more than a day at a time. I know its because I am positive I will see results, whereas before I wasnt sure or felt like I would be wasting my time cause "Im just gonna gain it back anyway!" I KNOW that when the weight comes off its gone, as long as I do what I need to be doing, and its not coming back :D

I remember making pulled pork for my family shortly after surgery (when I was still doing full liquids) and thinking it looked and smelled so good. But in the end, knowing that I didn't want to risk my staple line, helped me stay on track. I would often times make my family and meal and then hide out in the computer room, looking at posts here while they ate. I know you can't do that all the time, but it is a big adjustment during the first few weeks of healing.

Hang in there, this too shall pass.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
