C-Pap and Bi-Pap Users

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm still waiting on my surgeon's office to respond to BC/BS's request for clinicals to see if I'm approved for surgery. It was a rough year beginning with a call to the surgeon's office in March and my seminar in May! I've passed all my tests required by BC/BS and my surgeon.

Wait, wait, wait!

I am so excited to lose the weight and toss my bi-pap machine. Just wondered how many of you have been able to stop using your machine. My job requires me to take the card in my machine to a local medical equipment supply store and have them download a readout. I have to take this with me when I go for a physical to prove I've been using my machine regularly. If I haven't been using it enough, I won't pass my physical and could lose my job.

I had to get the Cpap because I had a mild case of sleep apnea...personally it was money hungry doctors as they made me do 2 sleep studies and then get the machine. My surgeon required a minimun 2 week compliance plus I had to have the machine for after surgery. I have already returned the machine back to the sleep clinic. My husband says I already snore less. But I don't have a job that requires complaince. I have heard from my support group that many have been able to discontinue within a year of surgery. Good luck.

I was sleeved on Nov 12th. I have severe apnea, settings at 15 for my cpap (o2 level would go to the 50% w/o CPAP)! I am going today to have my levels lowered to 6 and the doctors tell me only 3 more months with my CPAP. I have been using it now for over 4 years faithfully.

You will get better too. Good luck,

I also used to use a C-PAP with severe apnea. I had the lapband first and was able to get off the C-PAP within a few months of losing weight with the band. So I have full confidence that you'll be able to wean off of it as you lose weight with your doc's assistance.

I have to get my cpap on Thursday. I have borderline-moderate sleep apnea and have to use the cpap for 2 months prior to surgery. I'm sort of anxious about it, I found that I slept better with the machine, but don't want to need it at the same time. Can't wait until I don't need it anymore! How do you know when you're ready to get rid of it?

I was wondering about this, too. I have used my CPAP for a year now, and I will be glad to get off it. My RT says that we can reduce my volume and if my O2 sats are still good we can continue reducing it until I am off it. I hate it because it leaves marks on my face that take hours to disappear, but if I loosen the straps it leaks.

I too sleep great on bipap and the noise is soothing! It would be nice to not bother with it but I've got a lot of weight to lose and am in no hurry to wean off bipap. I expect many of us will be able to stop treatment as we reach a normal weight. If not, I'm ok. With it.

I guess I'm a freak, I actually like my CPAP.

I sleep like a rock with it...

+1

My settings are 18 and 14. I am told I will use an auto-titrate machine after surgery until I don't need it anymore.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
