WELL I'M 5 DAYS OUT NOW EVERYTHING IS GOING GREAT. BUT THERE IS ONLY ONE THING IT FEELS LIKE I HAVE A REAL SHARP PAIN IN MY LEFT SHOULDER, THAT COMES AND GOES THE PAIN IS INTENSIVE. FOR A SHORT TIME BOY DOES IT HURT.

TODAY I WALKED ABOUT 2 MILES BUILDING ON MORE EACH DAY.

BUT THE PAIN IS STILL THERE!

WHAT CAN I DO?

I am five days out too. I believe the pain can be from gas or it can be the way you were laying on the operating table. I was told to walk and it will go away. Glad you are doing well!

That's from the gas they put in you. Nearly everyone gets that. Mine totally went by 4 weeks (and the pain came on less frequently until it just went). Just keep walking and that'll get rid of it sooner. smile.gif

i had to reply because i believe it's relevant....i havent had any surgery yet....exploring my options and just went to a seminar for weight loss surgery last night but back to your issue....my son had ruptured his spleen last month and spent a week in the hospital....hes still recovering and doing well but he has been complaining about a sharp pain in his left shoulder since his accident....he googled trauma to the spleen and it said one sideeffect could be sharp pain in left shoulder.....perhaps due to your sleeve its a similar thing.....i have a feeling it is....so i would not worry, but of course let your doctor know....good luck :)

I experienced the same pain about 3 days out. The pain was intense and lasted for approximately 30 to 45 minutes. After that my shoulder just felt a little strange for a couple of days. I told my doctor about it at my follow up visit (the pain was gone) he was not concerned and said everything sounds normal. Im 2 1/2 weeks out now and I do not have any shoulder discomfort at all. Hopefully your pain will subside soon.

You've had some good advice about the cause. I found a heating pad on the shoulder helped to relieve some of the discomfort.

I'm more along the lines to believe it's from the gas pressure. I had this with both of my bariatric surgeries. It does go away eventually, usually within a few weeks. Mini's suggestion of the heating pad is a very good one.

As always, if you are more than slightly concerned don't hesitate to contact your surgeon.

Good luck to you!

I had this pain too. It was very intense and my surgeon checked me out with lab work and a CT scan. Everything looked good... So, it should get better on it's own.Dr. Ahuja is very careful and I trust him.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
